Apparently, Alec chose the absolute worst time to catch up with a few old RAAF mates and go out for a few drinks at Darling Harbour the night before. It had been a couple of years since so many of them had the chance to get together in person, so of course a ‘few drinks’ turned into a lot of drinks. Alec had no recollection of leaving the bar, let alone recollection of checking into a hotel where he awoke late that morning with a raging hangover and the very naked brother of one of his RAAF mates in the bed beside him.

He had been in the middle of hangover misery trying to ralph up a vital organ in the hotel room bathroom when the urgent text about Mark came from his father. He had a 30 second cold shower to try to drown away the hangover before he grabbed an uber to rush to the hospital, feeling like a piece of shit for getting into this mess when things were so precarious for his family. It really wasn’t like him, but it had been Mark himself who had told Alec to go for the night out with his mates because life had to keep plugging on somehow and he didn’t get the chance to see his old pals often.

It was only in a mad dash from the car park that he realised he had put his t-shirt on inside out and the sleeve of his blazer he had pulled on hastily had something that looked suspiciously like vomit on the sleeve and smelled dodgy... )

Reecy and Kyan had been given permission to attend the ICU as Justin’s family. All those wheels had been set in motion before they even arrived in Australia and Reecy was glad there wasn’t any hassle when she finally got to the hospital. Mark was still out of action but she had spoken to both of Justin’s moms, his grandparents, and Sam, and they all couldn’t be sure if Justin would be okay to accept visitors and even if he did, how he would be for them. His mental stability had deteriorated with the traum and being unable to see Sasha but Mhari had finally been able to get in to see them both. Reecy didn’t know how that had gone yet. As soon as she had gotten then greenlight to visit Justin, she and Kyan had jumped in their hire car and driven straight to the hospital.

Stepping through the large ICU security doors once they were buzzed in, Reecy had to stop and move over to the wall to take the railing, putting a hand on her stomach and taking some deep breaths. There was just something about the antiseptic smell of a hospital that brought back a lot of memories.

Kyan quickly wrapped his arm around his wife in concern... )

What: Late Night Deep-and-Meaningfuls
Where: Sydney, Australia
When: After this

The night sky was clear and covered in stars while the near-full moon cast a glittery streak across the surface of the ocean in the distance. There was something about the Australia sky that just seemed so much more crisp, clear, and fresh than Reecy had ever seen in her home country. She had a soft spot in her heart for this place, considering her baby brother in every way but blood was half-Australian. Though, some days, Justin seemed 100% Aussie. It had only really been since his real birth mother appeared that it was obvious how much of her genes he also shared. It was common for people to say Justin was Mark all over, which he was in so many ways, but you could see Alexis in his looks and there was no doubt all his musical and artistic talent came from her. Reecy thought Alexis was amazing and absolutely stunning. She wished she'd been able to spend more time with her and the way they would come to do that now was awful and made Reecy's stomach hurt far beyond even what the morning sickness was doing.

She picked up her wine glass and took a sip of the pretty decent non-alcoholic prosecco, trying to let the peaceful view of the ocean and beach beyond the backyard fence calm her. It wasn't really working. Her heavy heart was struggling with the enormity of knowing she had to try to visit Justin - and Sash - in the hospital tomorrow. It was unclear how his condition was and he didn't want visitors, though Justin's grandmother called her earlier and told her that Sash's mother was finally able to get to the hospital after all the covid roadblocks and Justin hadn't turned her away like he had been with everyone else. Right at this moment, even at this late hour, Mrs Stanford was still with both boys so no one really knew if she had any success breaching Justin's severe depression and grief trying to deal with the consequences of the car crash and hearing his dad had fallen off the booze wagon. Reecy was so worried about him. But she was also conscious she wasn't a blood relative and that trying to push Justin when he wasn't capable mentally or emotionally seeing people. He only ever shut down like this when he was having a severe episode with his bipolar or C-PTSD.

Further along the upper floor balcony where she had been sitting alone with her thoughts, she heard one of the glass doors slide up and Jude stepped out in just a pair of boxers and went over to lean on the railing, taking in a deep long breath and letting it out slowly. "How's the patient?" she asked, hoping she wouldn't startle him when he spotted her sitting there alone with only the moon and some fairy lights strung over the railing for light. "You look like you need a drink but I can't offer you anything with a kick, I'm afraid but it's as close to the real deal as you can get."

Trey woke up abruptly and looked around blearily with a few moments of disorientation. "Shit. I fell asleep." The lights in the Business Class cabin were dimmed and passengers seemed well settled in for the long-haul to Australia, some were even eating and enjoying drinks. "Jeezus, how long was I out?" he asked Ash who was seated beside him, laptop open in front of him with a pile of legal files and a yellow legal pad with scrawled notes sitting on top beside it.

He tried to discreetly swipe the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand to make sure he wasn't drooling and sat up, stretching. Once they were boarded and had their seats, he made the mistake of resting his eyes for a bit while they waited to take off when he could get his own laptop out to catch up on some work but apparently he must've crashed out instead. It was a later flight and they hadn't boarded until nearly 10pm but he was usually more of a night owl than this. Hell, he used to pull all-nighters at gay bars and rock up to work by 9am the following morning rearing to go in the courtroom. That was when he noticed a flight pillow had tumbled over his shoulder to his lap, where there was also a flight blanket tucked neatly around his waist, and Ash was scrutinising him closely.

"I'm okay. I'm fine. It's not a migraine, I promise. Did you...?" He tugged at the edge of the blanket, raising his eyebrows in surprise.

Jude hadn't thought much into it when Reecy shot him a text and invited him for coffee. Sure, there was a lot of water under that particular bridge but a lot of time had passed too and Jude had reestablished himself with life back in New York after volunteering in Africa. It was the best thing he could've done to get his life together again and he could only thank Reecy forever loving him. She taught him a lot of valuable lessons about life and what he wanted out of it. He knew she was happily married to Kyan now and he couldn't be happier for them. They really were perfect for each other. He hoped he could find his perfect match one day too but that seemed a far way off considering he was working his ass off at the hospital and studying his Masters in Nursing. If nothing else, at least he was nailing his career more than he ever could've anticipated.

Things were pretty cool between them him and Reecy now and they'd had coffee together a handful of times since he came back to New York to get his shit together. He'd had a busy shift at work but chilling with coffee seemed like a nice idea. He didn't have much of anything else on his schedule, save for taking care of Holly the following week so Lewis and Lorenzo could have a night away together. After managing to contract covid three times since the start of the pandemic from working in a high-risk setting. It had taught him to remember to pause and enjoy life sometimes, especially with friends and family.

After his shift, he took a shower and changed into some clean scrubs because his place was too out of the way to duck home for a change of clothes. He was tired but he had always struggled to fall asleep easily after nights so may as well eat until the sleepiness kicked in. When he arrived at the cafe Reecy chose, the first thing he noticed was that she wasn't alone. She had Winston with her. "Hey, buddy. It's great to see you again. I didn't realise you were coming today. How's the head been since the awful migraine? It's nice to see you've got colour back in your cheeks," he noted, dropping into the spare seat at their table. "I was going to give you a call to make sure you bounced back okay after it but I didn't want you to think I was a stalker," he joked, grinning.

Reecy pulled up at yet another intersection clogged with weekend traffic and Winston sighed, rubbing his face. He checked his watch because it felt like they had been in the car for ten hours, not ten minutes. "Why are we doing this again? Don't you have, like, a dance to rehearse or a husband to annoy? I was happy in bed."

Just over an hour ago, Winston had been buried under his covers in bed, gloriously oblivious to lunchtime approaching, when Reecy ripped his covers off and woke him up singing You Are My Sunshine. Besides swearing in about eight different languages in his head, Winston had seriously regretted ever giving her a key to his apartment he moved into a few weeks back. He still had boxes piled up everywhere and had only unpacked the essentials. Reecy could be painfully and annoyingly cheerful when she wanted to be and if she knew it was annoying you, she'd amp it up tenfold just to shit you. That was where he was when he dragged himself into the bathroom, bitching that, for some reason, she was even more of a pain in his butt than usual.

Now they were on their way to a 'much overdue BFF date' and all he was feeling was that he needed more sleep and possibly a few shots of alcohol. Not that alcohol had been much of his friend lately. He had always been a painful lightweight who got the worst hangovers but alcohol always seemed like a good idea at the time when it felt like there was nothing better to do. The sun was too bright and talk was too loud. He wasn't so much in a bad mood as in no real mood at all, which was probably worse to deal with. He respected that but it didn't make him want a sunburn at the beach either.

Of course, she liked the mornings they got to sleep in together on their days off and could snuggle as long as they like. She wished it was one of those mornings.

Being winter, she wasn’t treated to the delicious view of her husband in shorts and a tank top. Instead, it was sweatpants and a hoodie but he still looked as inviting as any other day. She was sitting in their bed wearing his winter robe, the covers pulled up around her. “Ky? Can you come here for a sec, gorgeous?” she called out to him before he headed into the shower. It was too tempting to follow him in there and she needed to talk to him first.

Who: Justin Campbell and Sasha Stanford with the whole crew
What: The Full Monty... and so it begins!
Where: Rehearsal Hall, NYC
When: Day after this

The last couple of days had been a big deal for Justin and his fellow crew working for Caden's company, Drake Productions. A lot of changes were in the wind, a lot which Justin had known about in advance because it involved was three-pronged of what Caden was laying groundwork for: a Footloose on the road tour, Justin's simultaneous one-show-per-location solo tour, and the charity event where Caden's biggest male stars were going to be doing The Full Monty to raise money for a select group of charities important to to those who worked for him.

Along with that, Caden had just announced internally that the event would signal the start of a run on Broadway of his newly commissioned show, none other than The Full Monty: The Musical and his lead in the role of Jerry was the one and only Billy Willis, who had been the supporting in Footloose since almost the start. As a result, Justin's newly appointment sidekick stepping full-time into the role of Willard was Merlin (with Tori piggybacking primary understudy for both Ren and Willard's roles), who had already been jobsharing with Billy since Billy beat cancer, after winning a scholarship to work with Caden's company some time ago. Justin knew about this particular shuffle awhile ago when Caden was first in discussion with Billy about the role. Justin was over the moon for him, always happy to see his incredibly talented friends be offered lead roles. If anyone deserved it, it was Billy. Justin already had great chemistry with Merlin, who was a great Willard.

What that all meant was, not only were some of Justin's forever favourite people going on tour with him but they were all going to be working on a charity event with him to raise money for causes extremely dear to him. That meant there would be singing and dancing rehearsals and a lot of time being in each others company. He couldn't think of a better way to start the New Year after what turned out to be one of the worst years of his life.

He came bounding into the rehearsal hall hand-in-hand with Sasha, cheeks flushed and ready to go. "Okay, who's ready to go on a vocal warm-up? Wait, is everyone here?" His phone started to ring and he swore, trying to fish it out of the pocket of his skinny jeans to take the call. It ended a few minutes later and he gave a wave of his hand, going over to the piano to grab his microphone headset to put on. "Merlin's out for today, he's got a family emergency he's had to go out of town for. There's enough here to get started. We can all be in on this, even if you aren't a singer, because if you ain't see it yet, I'm going to cut you out of my life for good," he joked and sat down at the piano to start off the warm-up, Bohemian Rhapsody, adjusting his microphone at his mouth with a smirk.

Autumn was shitting bricks as she approached the Broadway theatre where Drake Productions’ Dirty Dancing was having its run. She paused outside, looking up at the name emblazoned along the front which would be up in lights later in the evening.

STARRING KYAN WILSON AND REECY CHESTER-WILSON

She drew in a deep breath and exhaled quickly, bracing herself to take that step over the threshold into the theatre. Justin had tipped her off that Reecy (and likely Kyan) would be rehearsing and training that day. Somehow seeing Reecy’s married name in writing drove everything home for her. Deep down, she knew she had closure with Kyan but that didn’t mean she didn’t still have regret about throwing away and amazing relationship with an amazing guy. Kyan had been perfect and treated her as well as any person deserved to be treated.

And she walked in right as Kyan and Reecy were up on stage starting to rehearse The Number… Time of My Life, the song Kyan had proposed to Autumn with but that she could now no longer stake a claim over. She wondered now how Kyan had proposed to Reecy. He hadn’t said. He told her a little about their wedding and showed her pictures but nothing had been said about how he popped the question.

She stayed at the back of the theatre to watch them for a little bit... )

What: Faces from the past

Reecy had just spent a bit of time visiting Justin, at least until he had fallen asleep in the middle of their conversation. Luckily, as his honorary big sister, she was used to that with him so she knew it had nothing to do with her conversation skills. He looked better than when she last saw him when she drove him up for his appointment at Four Winds and he was agitated and stressed to the point he had jumped out of his skin when she put her hand on his arm right before he lost his shit at her. She knew that had nothing to do with her either and she was so relieved to see how well the ketamine was working. It was the quickest she had seen him recover from a mood flare-up in a long time. He was almost back to his normal self, save for now being covered in a rash and sleepy. She adored catching up with him, especially hearing that the cards had been put on the table for the possibility of him touring. It was incredible for a kid who, just a couple of months before, was restrained to a hospital bed on a closed ward on suicide watch after relapsing with Ice use.

She stepped out of the elevator shooting Kyan a text to make sure he had woken up for his doctor's appointment with her dad. He had a wardrobe malfunction on stage the night before and pulled a groin muscle in the last act. Not that anyone knew that because the show must go on and all that. The way he came off stage after curtain call, Reecy thought he'd been stabbed or something. Needless to say, there was no sex last night but he did earn the uncomfortable reward of an icepack near the dick in December after they got home. Trey was going to drive him to the appointment and Reecy was just reassuring her hubby again that she was pretty sure you couldn't actually sprain a dick even if he was getting sympathetic muscle pain in the general area around it. Boys and their penises.

That was the thought in her head when she suddenly stopped short in the hospital foyer, mouth dropping open. For a moment, she was sure she had been seeing things, but she still double-backed to make sure. She hadn't been seeing things. "Jude!" she gasped, both at seeing him and seeing how well he looked. Like, hipster-level well. He made hipster look good. She was going to quit life if he told her he had turned Vegan and was living on smashed avo, though. "Holy shit. I didn't know you were back. Uh... I didn't even know where you were, to be honest. Shit, um... how are you? You look well." She didn't know if she should offer an awkward hug but instead, pushed her sunglasses up onto her head instead of onto her face where they had been poised as she hit send on her text to Kyan.

Tonight, apparently Trey had something he wanted to talk to them all about, but he was the last one home.

Brendan headed home with Kyan and Reecy after they finished with Stage Door, but got stuck on a business call when they were getting home. Reecy took a shower and Kyan jumped in after her. While she waited for all the boys to get their shit together, she decided to make tea and call up for a pizza, a bit of a late evening snack in case Trey had done that thing where he worked through lunch and forgot what food was. Whether they liked it or not, she took care of all three of the boys, even if she was only married to one. The one she was beyond convinced was the love of her life, a concept she had been doubting actually existed when she realised he was right under her nose the whole time. Some days, it was still hard to believe that she was happily married, that some how, by some miracle, she really pulled it off.

What: Wedding Night!
Where: Sydney, Australia
When: After this

Reecy was there with quite possibly one of the most amazing views in the world, but she hadn’t been taking notice of it for ages. Instead, she was standing out on the balcony of a five-star suite that looked directly onto the Sydney Opera House scrolling through hundreds of photos on her phone. She was in nothing but one of Kyan’s t-shirts, long enough on her to be like a short dress. It was a clear night and the weather was still so warm, even if it was well past midnight. For Sydney, it was apparently still early because from where she was standing, she could still see people walking around the foreshore between the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. When she first came out, she just stood there with the soft sea breeze on her face that was sweeping her loose hair back from her face while she drank in the view.

There wasn’t a single photo she didn’t love. All the people she loved the most in this world surrounding them. Everyone had taken their own set of photos, but they also had a photographer who was an old family friend of the Campbells who had uploaded every single snap for them to Google Drive so they could have immediate access in the meantime until their official wedding album arrived. She knew she would be getting every single one printed, even if they filled a hundred photo albums. For one sole reason - she didn’t think it was possible to be this happy. Today had proven her wrong. It had taken all her doubts, tossed them into the air, letting them scatter, unforgotten.

She looked at the diamond wedding band on her finger nestled in against her engagement ring, that had previously belonged to Kyan’s mom. They had been doing a lot of soul-searching together in recent months since they started dating and it had led to Kyan wanting to give her his mom’s engagement ring, from a time long ago when she was happily married and Kyan and Trey were babies. She left the ring to Kyan when she passed away and because Reecy shared some qualities with her, Kyan wanted her to have it when he proposed to her. It was the most cherished thing Reecy ever owned, knowing the past behind it and why it was so special.

Lost in her own little world, thinking about how much life had changed recently, Reecy didn’t notice that Kyan had come out onto the balcony with her until he was wrapping his arms around her waist from behind, kissing her temple with a smile... )

Reecy had her camera out and was attaching one of the lenses to it when Kyan came up to to cuddle her from behind, arms easily looping around her slender waist. He nuzzled her cheek and sought out her lips to give her a kiss. “You picked a gorgeous day for a party, sweetie,” he told her, grinning. The weather was on their side. Even if there was a Fall chill in the air, it was still clear and pleasant. Fuck, did he love how she just fit in his arms. The height difference turned him on and so did her fashion sense. There wasn’t a single item of clothing she wore that he didn’t think she was absolutely gorgeous in. She had a trendy style, and now since she had come on board as Baby in Dirty Dancing, she had an enthusiastic fanbase who were emulating her fashion choices from her hair and makeup, right down to her shoes. He was proud of her. She took to this fame thing like a duck to water, way more than he ever did. Hell, he was still trying to figure it all out.

It was Walker’s birthday and Reecy had planned a family picnic a good few weeks ago now. Family was important. You had to champion time for them whenever you could, no matter how busy work got. ‘Family’ looked so much different these days too. For Kyan, he and Trey had been it for awhile. When he came to New York, he had been grieving deeply and the only way he felt he could keep his head above water was moving to be near Trey. Scoring the Footloose understudy job had been sheer dumb luck, born of desperately needing cash to pay the ridiculous New York rent. He hadn’t even wanted to get work in the entertainment industry, but the audition call was out and had dancing skills. It was the beginning of the biggest wrong period of his life. Ultimately, it was where he met Reecy and he couldn’t have known back then they would one day be here, in a relationship, in love, at the precipice of potentially taking some huge steps towards commitment. It was both scary and exciting, in a confusing mix he was unfamiliar with and blindly feeling his way through. He was trusting his gut instinct a lot, just like his mom had guided him since he was a young boy. He encouraged them both, told them they could be anything they wanted, but if it didn’t feel right, it usually wasn’t. That’s how he knew things with Autumn were just over. Everything changed with them, and it stopped feeling right. It stopped making him happy. All he wanted was a stab at happy, after all the pain he had gone through saying goodbye to his mom forever. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t wish she could be here sharing th is family stuff with them. It still hurt. He wasn’t sure it would ever stop.

And so, with the family now a unique construction of however they wanted and needed it to be, the family picnic was extended from Reecy, Kyan, Walker, Sawyer, Fin, and Shannon to include Trey, Brendan, Zeke, and Jett... )

Kyan got up early the next morning. Way too early for Reecy to be on the rise. He was usually more of an early bird than she was, but since they had been staying together, he preferred to stay in bed and snuggle with her longer. Because they worked evenings, they never really had to set an early alarm unless there were appointments or bookings for Shades of Violet commitments. Even if they had social plans, they were never early morning. He just wanted to make sure he had his ducks in as neat a row as he could manage at the moment, which meant he had to get this particular thing crossed off his list before it started to eat him up inside. He was always the sort to have anxiety about getting things right and whilst that wasn’t solely what this was, it was still important to him. Very important.

His stomach was flip-flopping with nerves and anxiety when he rang the doorbell of Walker, Sawyer and Fin’s place. They had moved to a house outside of the city, with a yard for Fin to keep in touch with nature a little and feel less like a trapped country boy in a claustrophobic cement torture chamber that was New York. It meant Walker was closer to his clinic and Fin was closure to Shannon. It was Sawyer who answered the door to Kyan and invited him inside, promising to get Walker for him. It seemed Kyan’s timing was lousy that day. Sawyer was just leading him inside when there was a shout of ‘Dad, help!’ from the next room. Sawyer hurried through, as quick as he could with this prosthetic leg and Kyan followed, because the cry for help sounded worrying.

He made it into the large kitchen and dining area in time to see Fin spectacularly throw up all over the kitchen floor, and mere moments later, before Sawyer made it to him, drop to the floor like a rag doll. Kyan winced, bracing himself for what he was sure would be an inevitable crack of Fin’s head on the tiles but Sawyer made it to him with a split second to spare before he fell too hard. Sawyer kind of skidded the last stretch of distance between him and son. That was some lightning fast reflexes and Kyan found himself wondering if he would be that epic in rescuing a kid if he ended up becoming a dad in this whole thing.

His height should rightfully help him spot her, but she was short and he really wished today was one of those times she wore one of her cute little fashionable hats. He really needed to find her because she was so upset and he was worried that his mere presence in her life had now destroyed everything for her. She hadn’t gotten too far. Enough away from the building’s entrance so she wouldn’t be judged, but he could see she was crying. There was no way she wouldn’t be. He ran over to her and as soon as he was at her side, wrapped his arm around her and kissed her head. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, sweetheart…”

Reecy wasn’t angry at him or upset with his presence in her life. There was nothing more further from the truth. He had actually made her happy again, when she had given up on finding it in the life she had been living. All along, right there under her nose (even if he was about a foot taller than her), he had been there. He had been her best friend for many months now and because of their situations, had noticed it may be more than friendship some day. When the feelings made themselves known, they hadn’t denied it. She loved that even more. It was the little things, things she had yearned for as long as she could remember. He would make her breakfast in bed, or get up that little bit earlier and jog down to her favourite cafe to pick them up coffee. One night he got home earlier than she did, so he ran her a bath with an amazing apple bubble bath and lit candles all around the room so she could relax. Of course, she didn’t want to take a bath without him, but she was glad to discover the bigger bath in her new place would pay off when Kyan barely fit in her current one due to his height. That meant to much laughs… another thing she loved about this whole thing.

But he also did the traditionally sweet things... )

Who: Reecy Chester and Kyan Wilson
What: Pinkie Promise
Where: Central Park, NYC
When: After this and this

Before heading to Central Park to meet Reecy that afternoon, Kyan stopped in at Lorenzo’s florist store and chose some bunch of coloured roses for her for no other reason than they might brighten her day. It would be a busy week coming up for them, he had discovered. There were some press conferences, publicity photoshoots and some media interviews now the announcement had been made. Life was going to be a bit of a whirlwind, but he was in a much better place emotionally now that he had been recently.

Despite expecting some of this stuff to come with pained confused, uncertainty, fear of losing friendships, none of that was happening. On the contrary, he should have known Reecy was Reecy. She always knew the right things to say, she always kept things real, she told it like it was, laid out the respect she deserved and in-turn, gave the same level of respect to everyone else. It could have been complicated. Perhaps with anyone else, it would have been.

Kyan was sitting on the edge of the Bethesda Fountain and he spotted Reecy as soon as she arrived... )

Who: Reecy Chester and Justin Campbell
What: Big Sister Duties
Where: Mount Sinai, NYC
When: After this

Reecy was close to leaving after she sat with Justin a little while while he slept when soon began to rouse. It was clear he was disoriented and maybe in a little pain or feeling sick, showing a little distress. She didn’t fully take his hand or touch him because you had to be careful with that when he wasn’t well. She just put her fingers softly over his to show him she was there and she pressed the nurse call button so they could come see if he was okay.

They didn’t ask her to leave, but they tended to him a little. Checked him all over, documented everything he was reporting. He did have pain and was feeling sick, even breathing seemed too taxing, but they gave him some medication and she could see it start to kick in. Now she finally sat forward, rubbing his leg softly through the hospital blanket. “Good to see those eyes open, Smooshie. How are you holding up, cutie? You and your man look like you’ve been through the wars.”

Whenever he was awake right now, Justin was exhausted. Body and brain. It took effort to be awake and functioning, but they told him it was because his body was recovering from the equivalent of running a week-long marathon and was still working extra hard to rid the toxin from his system... )

Who: Reecy Chester and Kyan Wilson
What: Chasing your heart
Where: Kyan's place, NYC
When: After this

Reecy saw Kyan left because she had been watching him while she sang her last song. Outwardly, there was no signs she noticed anything. She had been in this game long enough to know how to keep her professionalism, and tonight was important. Not because she had announcements to make, but because it was for an incredible cause that was near and dear to her heart and she was running with the baton for Justin, who couldn’t be there. Whilst he had been instrumental in the idea and he and all his friends would be attending the special prom, he had been clear at the meeting that he wasn’t in the right headspace right now to orchestrate any massive projects. In fact, it was at that meeting he tabled the fact that he was stepping away from some professional commitments for a while to have some space to heal. Right from the start, everyone knew there would be periods he needed to pause and step back. That was even before he collapsed on stage and was rushed to hospital.

When Kyan left, she felt her heart skip a beat. She was buzzed from how well the dance had gone, but at the same time, there was always that chance he might not be happy Louise was moving on and Caden had offered the role to Reecy. Chicago hadn’t been a Caden production. It was produced by one of his friends, but she had missed working with Caden and the team. More than she had words to say. With Lisa moving back to New York, Reecy had met with her and asked her if she would ever want to go back to the role of Velma Kelly, and ultimately, it worked like clockwork. Like it was meant to be.

She wanted to be the one to tell Kyan, but it had been hard to find the right time because everything hit the fan with him and Autumn. The relationship ended and then he struggled with renewed grief over him mom, and general depression and heartache... )

Who: Kyan Wilson with Reecy Chester
What: We're heading for something...
Where: New York City
When: Friday night

It was another day, another benefit. One of those crazy days where both Kyan and Reecy did their respective shows and then immediate after, rushed off to attend a Shades of Violet & Rainbow benefit. This time, they weren’t alone. Going on behind the scenes in recent months was with Presley’s funding and Justin’s coaching, a band was constructed called Violet Rainbow consisting of Justin’s musically-talented friends. The plan was that they would be a standalone band in their own right, playing charity gigs, but they would also back Justin for any of his benefit appearances and he would occasionally get up and sing with them at their gigs.

It was an incredible achievement and Kyan was proud of them all. There was Fin on drums, Shannon (who had conquered his fear of being a disabled musician) on keyboards, Cooper on guitar, Noah on guitar for acoustic numbers (he didn’t want to be a full-time member due to his health), Maryanne on vocals, Amarlie as their stylist. And apparently through the grapevine, Luka, the young guy Justin saved from a suicide attempt they met in Denver, was coming to New York to join the band as bass guitarist and Justin’s third back-up singer. Kyan wasn’t sure if it was actually in motion yet, or whether it was just in talks, but it was exciting to be part of the SoV family. Kyan felt it gave him purpose, and he would never not cherish his charity work. He knew above all else, that was the thing his mom would be most proud of him for.

That night, Reecy was performing... )

Who: Reecy Chester and Kyan Wilson
What: Letting go is hard, holding on is harder
Where: Four Seasons, Denver, Colorado
When: Friday

Reecy was sitting by the hotel window that had a perfect view over Denver. She was nursing a cup of tea and reading a book she had been looking forward to starting. It was a beautiful suite with views in in the distance of the mountains. It had been far from the easiest stop of their tour, however. Across the suite, Kyan had been passed out cold after way too much booze not just from the hotel bar, but he also hit the mini bar once she dragged him back to their room. He was usually a teetotal, but the decision to go visit his mom’s grave had tipped him over the edge.

She had lost count of how many times she got distracted from her book, looking over at him sadly as he slept. He had completely broken down at the cemetery. He seemed okay at first. She went with him, a supportive arm around his waist so he knew he wasn’t alone to face this extremely difficult task of visiting her grave for the first time since they buried her. He had already been distant through the meet-and-greet with fans and donors to Shades of Violet. She did most of the schmoozing and took the driver’s seat on liaising.

Not that there needed much. They were wanting to throw money at them because apparently Justin had helped rescue a young person, a fan of Justin’s, here in Denver from a suicide attempt... )
