Who: Reecy Chester-Wilson, Kyan Wilson, Trey Wilson and Brendan Drake
What: Big Changes in the Air
Where: Wilson/Drake Apartment, NYC
When: After this

Reecy was in the kitchen in her slippers and Kyan's bathrobe, the kettle boiling while she was texting with Justin. In an apartment with two Broadway actors, a Broadway musical producers, and a workaholic attorney, there was never really early nights in their place unless someone was sick and forced into bed. Tonight, apparently Trey had something he wanted to talk to them all about, but he was the last one home.

Brendan headed home with Kyan and Reecy after they finished with Stage Door, but got stuck on a business call when they were getting home. Reecy took a shower and Kyan jumped in after her. While she waited for all the boys to get their shit together, she decided to make tea and call up for a pizza, a bit of a late evening snack in case Trey had done that thing where he worked through lunch and forgot what food was. Whether they liked it or not, she took care of all three of the boys, even if she was only married to one. The one she was beyond convinced was the love of her life, a concept she had been doubting actually existed when she realised he was right under her nose the whole time. Some days, it was still hard to believe that she was happily married, that some how, by some miracle, she really pulled it off.

Who: Brendan and Lisa Drake
What: Mum and Son time
Where: Caden's ex-apartment, Upper East Side
When: Friday night

Life lately had been crazy. First, Brendan's uncle went and fell in love again - and hard - so when Caden decided to really give it a decent go and move in with Tristan, Brendan and Trey made the same leap of faith. Brendan moved in with Trey and Kyan around the same time, and it actually worked out really well. He and Trey made it work pretty damn good, and Kyan was no bother. He was probably one of the most sweetest and easygoing guys to ever walk the earth. When Trey said he wanted Brendan to move in, Kyan didn't even hesitate. He just asked if there was anything he wanted Brendan to get from the grocery store, because it was his turn to do the shopping.

Caden hadn't put his Upper East Side apartment up for rent, though. He held onto it vacant because he was toying with the idea of redecorating, or selling, or just putting it on timeshare. After Caden's accident in London, Brendan's mum came back to New York with them to be on hand to help him, even if he did have Tristan. It was just what their family didn't. She wasn't trying to step on Tristan's toes. What she was doing was being on hand in case Tristan needed help. Plus, there was Caden's birthday, Christmas, and Brendan's birthday all in quick succession, so she was going to stay on. Caden's vacant apartment was what she ended up taking over for a bit, and even offered to help him with idea for redecorating. Caden being on crutches, however, hadn't been much help at all.

So, that was where Brendan and his mum were having their mom/son date that evening. Brendan had spent the better part of a week battle a migraine after last weekend, when the twins, Miles, Rhys, Louise, and Autumn all took him out for a belated birthday celebration. Which basically just meant getting him blind drunk. He didn't object. He was pretty sure it was fun as fuck, he just couldn't remember because he was so blinded. Besides, they had Miles and Rhys' engagement to celebrate. It was SRS BSNS.

Now, the Chinese takeout had arrived via delivery, and Brendan was settling on the couch with his mum, his noodle box, and chopsticks, ready to watch a movie together. Not until he nailed her down to have a D&M first. "Mum, can I ask you something?" he said, before shoving some of his Chow Mein into his mouth with the chopsticks.

Who: Justin Campbell, Kyan Wilson and everyone else at the Dirty Dancing opening night party
What: PARTY HARD
Where: Broadway, NYC
When: Saturday night

It was all about the understudies tonight with Caden arranging for the entire Footloose main cast to be able to be there for the opening night of Dirty Dancing. There was no doubt about it that they all had to be there to support Kyan, and wouldn't have missed it for the world. They were over the moon for him, and so proud. It went without saying - Kyan nailed the role of Johnny Castle. It had been a sell-out audience, and the standing ovation was totally deserved. Justin was bursting with pride. Kyan used to be his understudy, and despite a blip in the system with them in the early days, Justin couldn't be more proud of his friend now. It was clear why Caden 100% wanted Kyan for the role. He was the new Johnny Castle.

Needless to say, the after party was buzzing with excited guests before any of the actors and actresses from Caden's shows arrived. They had media and press obligations to see to before they could make it to the party, but they did eventually get there. The understudies from Footloose, Cinderella, and Grease would be able to come to the party once their own shows were done for the night. When Kyan and Louise arrived, with their supporting cast (including Skylar) arrived, it was time to really get the party started. Justin had ditched his expensive designer suit he had worn to the theatre for something more comfortable, and he came out to kick off the main party by getting everyone pumped singing Love Shack with Reecy and demanding everyone get up to dance.

Who: Brendan Drake and Trey Wilson
What: Those three words
Where: Surgical Unit, Mount Sinai
When: After THIS

There was just absolutely no way Brendan could stomach the hospital coffee. He had given it three attempts, but he couldn't do it to himself. He wanted real coffee or real tea, so with Trey asleep, he had taken a quick trip to a nearby coffee shop and got a cup of real tea. That made him feel much better than coffee. He wasn't generally a huge coffee drinker. Born and bred an Englishman, tea was his preference, but he had needed a bit of a boost after being up since around 2.30am when Kyan had called him to tell him Trey was really sick and needed to go to the hospital.

At that point, they didn't know it was appendix. Kyan had said Trey was burning up and he couldn't stop being sick. Apparently he wasn't all that different to when he had the first allergic reaction to booze, but Kyan insisted Trey wouldn't have been drinking. Brendan knew Trey had been feeling sick. Trey had sent him a text the morning before and told him he wasn't feeling well. Brendan had work scheduled, but promised to drop by to see Trey afterwards. When he had gotten there, Kyan had told him Trey was sleeping, so Brendan didn't want to bother him.

He hadn't seen any of this coming, but there was no doubt he was going to get out of bed and meet them at the hospital. By the time Trey was being seen in the ER, his appendix had ruptured and he was rushed into emergency surgery. Turned out that once they were inside, they found it was a pretty nasty infection that had gotten into his belly and it was why he had been really sick. He would be in hospital for around a week while he was given a heavy cocktail of antibiotics and kept a close eye on him. Infections like that could turn to septicaemia.

Coming back with his tea, Brendan found Trey awake and he gave him a small, sympathetic smile. "Hey, you're awake this time," he murmured and came over to Trey to analyse more closely how he was doing. "How are you feeling? I would say you look better than you did last night, but not so much with that just yet."

There was nothing in Brendan's schedule that day that couldn't be cancelled or postponed. He was busy most days, but a lot of it was just work experience, mentoring, or writing his own music for other performers. But if Trey was feeling upset because Kyan was upset, there was no doubt he was going over there to talk. Trey seemed like he needed to talk about some stuff, though Brendan knew that no matter how much you wanted to talk sometimes, didn't always means you could manage it easily when push came to shove.

He let his uncle know he would be gone for the day, and might not come home that night. Caden didn't, at all, keep him under the thumb. He was an adult and made his own choices, but he did ask soon after Brendan came to New York that he could just keep him informed where he was so he wasn't worrying if he was okay. A city like this, knowing people who had been seriously hurt by awful things, it was more than a fair request to make and Brendan had always honoured it.

He stopped off at a nearby deli and got him and Trey a couple of frappes. It was a hot day, a hot coffee wouldn't cut it. He was worried about Trey, because they had spoken a little and Trey admitted he hadn't dealt well with his mother's death. But other than that, Trey seemed to be a head-down-bum-up hard worker. Though, in Brendan's experience, that could mean he was trying to stay busy and distracted. With the cup tray in one hand, he took his phone out of his pocket and sent Trey a text to let him know he was here. That way, he didn't have to ring a buzzer that might wake Kyan up if he had gone back to bed. Either way, Brendan just enjoyed Trey's company. It was a bolt out of the blue, but it felt right.

"Either you decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean." - Christopher Reeve

That moment of disorientation when you woke up in someone else's bed was completely foreign to Brendan. Waking up in someone else's bed naked was a new experience and his hazy mind took a few moments for him to realise where he was and why he was naked. He didn't even sleep naked alone, and that was the first thing he realised when he woke and scrambled to prop himself up on his elbow to wave through the confusion. He was naked, the bed was facing the wrong way, there was a streak of light coming in from between the curtains of a window that wasn't supposed to be right at the end of the bed.

That was because he wasn't in his own bed naked, and he wasn't alone... )

Who: Trey Wilson and Brendan Drake
What: The joys of a having an introvert twin
Where: Broadway, NYC
When: Saturday afternoon

Trey had been here to this theatre on Broadway a few times in the recent months. He had been sure to catch some of the shows when Kyan had stepped up into the lead shoes, and fuck, was he proud of his brother. He spent the whole time just grinning because that was his twin up there, the dude he shared a uterus with and many other things since then. There was no way Trey could be prouder. And, indeed, it was said twin who had him arriving there by cab that afternoon after spending the morning at the law firm's office working with Ash, Dani, and Curtis on Justin's defence for court. Kyan told him he had a meeting with Caden and they could catch up for coffee afterwards.

What his twin failed to tell him was that the meeting with his boss wasn't at the theatre, but at Caden's home office, so here was Trey arriving to a mostly empty theatre save for what looked like some production crew up on the stage and some unseen lighting people fiddling around with the stage lights coming from above him. He was still in his work suit and pushed his Ray Bans up onto his head to see if he could spot Kyan anywhere. There was a guy standing at a piano on the stage, leaning over and writing something resting on the surface of it. Even from this distance, Trey could see he had a delicious ass. Maybe he should just stand there and take in the view for awhile.

Still, he didn't want the guy to turn around and spot him copping a perve and think he was a creeper or anything. The last thing he needed was to get arrested. Especially not on the career path he was on, and especially not in the theatre his boss' kid worked. He sauntered down the centre aisle between the rows of audience seats and cleared his throat. "'Scuse me, dude. I'm looking for Kyan. You don't know where I could find him, do you?"

Who: Brendan Drake and Autumn MacDonald
What: Clearing the air
Where: Broadway, NYC
When: Same time as THIS

It was early in the day, so the theatre was yet so it was hours before most people would begin to turn up for the show that night. Brendan liked to sometimes come early in the days to mess around with some of the music because he was technically still an apprentice learning the ropes of what went down in Broadway shows. He spent equal amounts of time with all of Caden's productions, working with the musical directors and readying himself for taking the lead with the next production.

Footloose had a special place in his heart, though. It was Caden's most thriving production and was the one who had been receiving all the award nominations. It was pretty spectacular and had been years in the making. Beyond what the movies had portrayed, this production focused on Ren's story and to do that, Caden had needed a lead like Justin to be able to do so much more than just the dances. He had dances with every main cast member, scenes with them all, and sung at various points throughout the production. Ren in the movies had just been the dancer.

What it meant was that the show had some incredible music and sound production. The music was bolder, the lighting was a work of art. Even the costumes and makeup helped tell the story. This one was probably Caden's baby, through all the shows he had produced. It was why Brendan liked spending so much time here. He was learning more here than he could anywhere else. Despite the teething problems and near catastrophic controversy with Paul, it was still amazing.

Brendan was sitting at the piano on the stage, which was always pushed backstage for the show but Justin liked to utilise it during warm-ups and rehearsals. Phoenix spent a lot of time on it too now, and their warm-up sessions had become a lot of fun. When you got Justin well, he was a giant teenage goofball. It was a lot of fun. He had a pen in his mouth, scribbling down some notes as he worked on writing a song. Things had been tough lately, and he had found himself a bit of an emotional wreck, so he had thrown himself into working and writing music to try to get some balance again. There was something incredibly peaceful about an empty theatre and the acoustics it offered. He liked to lose himself in it sometimes.

Who: Caden and Brendan Drake
What: That awkward moment when your teetotal nephew is hungover
Where: Home, Broadway, NYC
When: About lunch time the day after THIS

Caden was oblivious to what Brendan had done the night before. In fact, he had wholeheartedly believed Brendan's text telling him he was going for a coffee with Reecy was exactly what had happened. Caden had woken up early and gone to brunch with Casper before his lover was due on set to film his TV show. Then he met briefly with Lisa and Sam for coffee, and although nothing had been officially declared there yet, Caden could see his sister had feelings for the doctor and he was 100% okay with that. It was Justin's uncle, and Caden adored that whole family.

So when he got back and heard someone being violently sick in the bathroom, considering only one person lived with him, he knew who it was and was instantly worried. Hangover didn't even cross his mind. He went straight to the bathroom and pushed the door open, finding Brendan on the floor hugging the toilet bowl and throwing up pretty intensely. "Hey, hey... Bren, buddy, you should have called me if you were sick," he chastised gently, but as soon as he was in the bathroom, he could smell the stale odour of cigarette smoke and booze. Not to mention the fact Brendan was still in the clothes he was wearing at the theatre the night before, his leather jacket half on one arm and half off draped over his leg.

"Are you... hungover?" he asked in surprise, voice raising a little in tone.

Who: Brendan Drake and Reecy Chester
What: "Take me to the place where you go."
Where: Broadway, NYC
When: Thursday night

It had been a hell of a night, but Brendan's mind, heart and soul hadn't been in it. Currently, his work schedule was an equal balance of time spent with the Footloose, Grease and Cinderella productions getting experience working with the music producers of all three. That night, he had been with the Footloose crowd but he had barely been able to concentrate. Not even after the show, backstage, when they all had a very surprise, but understandably brief, visit from both Billy and Justin (along with Ajay). It was a poignant thing for everyone to see both guys, though there was evident shock at seeing that Billy actually looked sick. Maybe on some level, they had been telling themselves it was all going to be okay because Billy was the bright spark of them all.

It was nice to see them, but it had been Justin who had Brendan's discreet focus. He looked pale, and he was quiet, eyes dull. But he spoke politely to everyone reassuring them he was getting better. Ultimately, he didn't talk about what happened or the why of his absence, but Brendan knew what had happened. Seeing the kid in the wake of it all, and in the wake of the awful day Brendan had, it was too much. He had quietly departed backstage and left the theatre.

He hadn't gone too far. He was due to head home with Uncle Caden so he was waiting for him to be done. He sat on the steps of a building a couple of doors down from the theatre and had managed to go through almost a half a pack of cigarettes. A steady trickle of cast members, crew, and other staff left the theatre but headed up the street in the opposite direction to him while he waited for Caden to come out. Taking another drag of his cigarette and then ashing it onto the sidewalk, Brendan sighed and sat there seriously contemplating a solo trip away somewhere... anywhere that wasn't New York right now.

The long-haul flights, Lisa would never not be glad she had the luxury of First Class at her disposal. She wasn't a fan of flying at the best of times. It was just one of those necessary evils, especially this time. It had been a good few months since she had seen her brother and her son. Christmas had been planned, though at the last minute, the terrible news of Bryce's brain tumour had broken and his family flew him back to New York to be with them through the difficult time. Brendan, understandably, wanted and needed to be there while Bryce had the surgery so they decided to make the next family gathering for Easter.

In the meantime, Lisa made the decision to move to New York herself. Maisy was settled in Surrey with her parents and her bipolar was controlled. Brendan, who had been Skyping with her most days since he moved to America himself, was also settled and happy in New York. He loved being part of Caden's world and reassured her time and time again he had made some friends for life since being here with those kids who were part of the Footloose production. When she was offered the role of Velma in the Broadway production of Chicago, it just seemed like kismet... and maybe a change in her life was well overdue anyway.

So, here she was having collected her bags, trying to urge the crowds shuffling out of the arrival gates to go faster so she could get to Caden and Brendan. She missed them so freaking much, and being a typical mum, she was probably going to cry a lot when she saw them. Thank fuck for waterproof mascara.

Stupidly, Billy stayed up all night both watching Footloose on the TV and re-watching some of the videos of Justin's rehearsals that Gen had sent him awhile back (before Justin fell ill) because she shared everything going on in her life with Billy. He told Justin he would help him out, so he wanted to at least have a familiarity with what the kid might throw at him. Billy didn't want to let him down. In fact, Justin seemed to have so much faith in him that he suggested Billy could run lines with him in the lead up to his opening night. It sounded like fun, but Billy didn't want to screw up and just be counter-productive for the kid.

It was breakfast time when Jude came along and poked him in the head and gave him a noogie to wake him up. He had to be at the theatre by nine when the auditions were going to start. He was groggy and sleepy, but he had to get his ass into gear. Trying to wake himself up and get some clarity, he told Jude he had to wake Ajay up, only to be given a wet willy and be told lover boy was already up and showering. Of course, that earned Jude a string of sleepy, grumpy protests about Ajay being his lover boy, followed by a few brotherly insults before Billy went to his room to hunt for something decent to wear.

Ajay told Billy the afternoon before that he would like to go along and watch... )

As promised, Caden took Brendan out for lunch so they could catch up. There was a reason Caden wanted to speak to his nephew, though he was more than aware that Brendan wouldn't want to talk about the technicalities of Caden's faux pas with Casper a couple of days before. At least Brendan wasn't upset or angry with him. Things weren't even really awkward, which Caden was grateful for. They had chatted lightly when they ordered their meals and drinks, Brendan filling him in on what he had been working on the past few days and that he had spoken to Justin to give him a little moral support after the poor kid came down with mono. He said Justin had been worried about his voice and that he wouldn't be able to sing. He was worrying about being okay for rehearsals, he was worrying he would hate all the new cast members, he was worrying Caden would ultimately think he was just too much hassle with getting sick again.

Of course, the news worried Caden, though Brendan had elaborated that he talked Justin through all of it, promised his voice would bounce back one he was over the worst of the infection, and that casting wasn't scheduled for another few weeks so he may still be able to sit in on the auditions with Caden as planned. He was glad Brendan worked well with Justin, with hopes it would give Justin more security with everything when things kicked back off with the production. And it was only then that Brendan politely asked Caden what it was he wanted to talk to him about.

Caden cleared his throat and placed his knife and fork on the plate, because he really wanted Brendan's input on all this, and how it would make him feel. "I understand you don't want to talk about what happened, but it has lead to what I wanted to discuss with you. Yes, it was Casper I was with the other day, things subsequently developed that lead to Casper spending the last couple of nights with me. Who: Brendan Drake and Justin Campbell
What: You're not alone
Where: Broadway, New York City
When: Around lunchtime

During one of their many heart-to-hearts, Brendan had asked his uncle if he thought there was anyway he could help Justin. If he could, he wanted to offer it up. It was just the sort of guy Brendan was. Caden had admitted that Justin could sometimes be a hard kid to read, or to express what he needed to get back on his feet. He did promise to talk to Justin's parents and suggest that Justin might like to spend some time with Brendan sometime, considering he understood what it was like to deeply care for someone with bipolar. Of course, Brendan hadn't thought it would be any time soon, but he got a call from Justin's father that morning and asked if he would like to have an hour or two with him. The only thing was that Brendan was still working at one of the Broadway theatres shadowing one of the musical producers, and that particular morning, it was just him with some members of the band he had hit it off with.

And perhaps, that was a perfect opportunity anyway. Justin's dad had expressed an exhausted confession that he didn't know what would help Justin or hinder him at this point, and if being in the theatre where he was supposed to have made his Broadway début that following week, being in the place he had been hurt to begin with, was too much, he and Justin's stepmom would be in a cafe just down the block and to call ASAP so they could come and collect him. Brendan thought there was a high chance that the whole thing would be called off and he was just sitting at the piano on stage reading some of the sheet music when the doors at the back of the theatre opened and Justin appeared.

From that distance, Brendan couldn't see how he was, but he walked down the middle aisle towards the stage. He wasn't approaching fast and he had his hands buried deep in the pockets of the hoodie he was wearing with a pair of grey track pants... )

What: "I wanna talk tonight."
Where: The Bean
When: Friday evening

Brendan was pretty sure he had slept a lot of the jetlag away. He was still feeling a bit upside on times and there was an underlying tiredness, but he had time to rest. When Caden decided to go visit Justin, Brendan had arranged the coffee date with Autumn that he promised her. He arrived at the coffee shop before she did and ordered and iced almond milk chai with a gluten-free bagel before finding a table in the corner near the window. He had his iPad mini out just catching up on Facebook from friends back home. He had left a good bunch of close friends back home and he knew he was going to miss them. They all understood why he had to go, though. Good friends just got that shit.

He got to Maisy's latest post, something about a party and a new dress. He was sitting there looking at it, unable to even stifle a small sigh. He would never not feel like he failed her, but it had brought a little peace for him when she gave him a hug at the airport and apologised that he had to leave because of her. That was the hardest part, when she was well and knew the destruction she caused if she decided she didn't need her meds and stopped taking them, plunging right into another episode. All he could hope was that she didn't destroy herself.

Who? Autumn MacDonald, Caden Drake, and later, Brendan Drake
What? When the truth hurts
When? About a week after Caden's announcement
Where? Caden's place

Autumn was crushed -- absolutely crushed, and for many reasons. Her heart was broken for the loss of her co-starring role in Footloose... what was supposed to be her big break. But more than that, it was broken over what had happened the night of the party, when Justin had gotten so hurt, and she hadn't been there for him, because she'd let herself get lost in her own pain, and tried to numb it with drugs and alcohol herself. And now everything was up in the air, and Autumn couldn't believe she'd left Justin alone there at the party in the first place.

The truth was hard to swallow... hard to accept... but at the end of the day, Justin deserved some type of justice for what had been done to him. And that, scary though it was, was why Autumn was sitting here in Caden's office at home, only even managing to find out where he lived by pulling a few strings and calling in a favor or two. She sat, somewhat awkwardly, in a chair on one side of the desk, looking at her (former?) boss across from her. "I... Thanks for seeing me," she finally said awkwardly. "There's something that I need to talk to you about, and before you even say anything? I didn't come to get my job back. I came because there's something that you need to know."
