Who: Justin Campbell and Amarlie-Rose Satori with anyone else who wants to jump in
What: Overdue Squad Chillout
Where: Casa de Campbell, Upper East Side
When: Weekend Sleepover

It had been way too long since their squad had a decent hangout. There had been the holidays and a bunch of family shit going on - not to mention Justin discovering he had a long-lost biological birth mother out there who loved him - that time just got away and they hadn't had a chance to get together as a group. Those of them that lived at Casa de Campbell decided this weekend was it, and PJs and hot chocolate were a much, considering they were expecting snow. It was the shitty weather that had them deciding a sleepover would be fun. There was plenty of room and it would give them the chance to hang out and have fun, especially with Justin's tour due to kick off in a few weeks where he and a lot of his friends who worked with him would be on the road soon.

Dressed in his fluffy rainbow onesie PJs, Justin grabbed a Krispy Kreme donut and a can of Diet Dr Pepper and leapt over the back of the couch, dropping in the spot right up next to his sister, Amarlie, giving her a mischievous grin. "So - how about them vajayjays?" he asked pointedly, licking some donut glaze off his pinkie finger.

Who: Sqaud Batcall for Merlin Blake and Brandon Blake - Justin, Sasha, Wesley, Noah, Skylar, Cassidy, Tori, Shannon, Fin, Layla, Maryanne
What: Bad news travels fast
Where: Mount Sinai, NYC
When: After this

If there was one thing about their squad, it was when shit when down with one of their own, they knew how to rally. It was how Justin went from not really being too up for visitors while he was having dialysis to having Sasha, Cassidy, Tori, Layla, Maryanne, Skylar, Finn, and Shannon. More of their friends would probably arrive too, considering the gigantic twist of fate things took with Merlin. It was a shock to see that Merlin accidentally posted a personal post about Brandon to his public Instagram account but the news came that Brandon had apparently taken a bad turn and no one knew much of anything.

“Shit’s absolutely hitting the fan all over socials about Brandon,” Skylar told them with a low whistle, shaking his head as he scrolled his phone. “No one seems to know what the fuck’s going on. Fans are shitfighting between it’s a scam or a hacking and wanting to paint themselves with rainbows and declare themselves Brandon’s biggest big fat gay allies. Then there’s a whole pile of Merlin’s fans shitfighting because they thought he was straight and single fighting with a whole bunch of fellow pansexual fans telling the other side they’re idiots because he came out as pan. Did he actually come out? I can’t even remember anymore.”

From where Justin was sitting in the bed with his head on Sasha’s shoulder, he rolled his eyes... )

Who: Sasha Stanford, Cassidy Cohen and Finlay Bennett and anyone else is welcome to join the, of course!
What: Lunch
Where: School
When: Monday

Lunch that day was an unexciting mac-n-cheese with something on the side that looked like it was once a vegetable but was now something Sasha would end up dumping in the bin. He was trying to nudge it right off the side of the plate with his fork whilst simultaneously texting Justin, who was at work for more training sessions that day for conditioning and working with Billy and Merlin. Justin really crashed out the night before, and early, and he was still asleep when Sasha had to get up for school. They now had this unspoken arrangement that if either of them weren't awake when the other left, they would text when they got up to say good morning. Or Facetime, if Sash wasn't in class.

It would still be about three or four weeks before his family's move to New Rochelle was complete. He was excited that he would be officially living in New York. He could have a normal and healthy relationship with his boyfriend - not long distance - and he would be closer to all his new friends. Some days were still hard without Andi. He would find the most random of things sparked memories of her and the tears would come. He had taught himself to just let them, because it was cathartic to feel the grief. Little by little, it was getting easier, but life was different now. Because it had changed so much, he wasn't constantly aware of the huge hole that she left.

Justin sent him a quick Snapchat clip blowing him a kiss before he had to get back to work. Sasha smiled, flicked back a final text calling Justin a goofball, and then put his phone back in his pocket. When he saw Cassidy heading over with her own tray, he gave her a wave. They hadn't had any classes together that morning, so he wanted to see how she was doing. He wanted her to know he was there for her if she wanted to talk.

What: Homecoming
Where: Webster home, Leonia, NJ
When: Saturday

Shannon was finally allowed to come home. He had been working so hard with physio to get him to a place where he could be cared for at home for the rest of his recovery. Fin knew Shannon hated it in the hospital, but it wasn't because he had any sort of deep-seated dislike of them. It was because to Shannon, it represented incapacity and not being in his own space. It amplified the fact he was disabled. He was far from full recovery, but he was now able to be home on bed rest. His mom was going to be taking a couple of months off work to care for him, just like she had way back after he finally came home after the initial accident.

It still wouldn't be easy. Shannon was only allowed to be helped - extremely carefully - from the bed to a shower chair with wheels so he could bathe each day. Everything else, he had to do in bed. Literally everything else. Fin knew this was still going to be hard for Shannon, so he was going to be there for him as much as he could until Shannon regained more of his mobility and independence. That weekend, he was going to be staying at the farm, so he had packed up, including Rusty, for a nice weekend of finally having his love back in his own space, and probably feeling in a bit better spirits than he had been. This past week, Shannon had been teary and depressed. To the point Richie prescribed him a mild low dose antidepressant. Shannon had been on them in the past. Fin noticed a difference already, but Shannon was inevitably still down at times.

Fin had already been at the farm when Shannon's parents brought him home. First, they had taken Shannon to see Niko, who still hadn't really regained consciousness, but he was doing a lot better. Fin hoped it helped Shannon a little to see how his uncle was doing. He knew Shannon adored Niko, to the moon and back, and then some. Fin had been hanging with Zeke while they waited for Shannon and his parents to arrive. Zeke was hilarious, Fin thought he was brilliant. It was damn cool too that Zeke and Jett were going to give dating a shot. Fin offered his encouragement, gushing about how awesome dating was. Of course. How could he not? He was still head-over for Shannon.

Now Shannon was home, and Fin was waiting in the bedroom door while his mom and dad helped get him into bed. Shannon was one some strong painkillers, but the movement was clearly still a struggle. "We'll leave you in Fin and Rusty's capable hands and paws, baby boy," Mrs Webster told Shannon and kissed his head once he was in bed, propped up on some pillows. Then Fin and Shannon were left alone, and Fin went over, already offering Rusty to him and leaning over to give Shannon a kiss. "I'm so glad you're home, baby."

Fin ran as fast as he could humanly manage all the way through the hospital and up to the floor Shannon's room was on. He was out of breath, red-faced, and sweaty by the time he got there. "Shan... baby..." he panted, trying to catch his breath. He went up to his boyfriend and gently put his hands on his shoulders. "If I tell you something, will you promise me you won't try to move when I do?"

Shannon had gotten to the point where he hated being stuck lying on his back. They had elevated the head of the bed a little more now, so he wasn't completely flat out, but he still wasn't sitting up either. He was looking up at Fin in complete confusion, frowning because why was Fin looking so stressed out? He looked like he had just lapped everyone in the New York marathon or something. Which said a lot, because Fin was fit as all fuck. He wasn't pumped or built. He was slim and if he didn't wear belts, his jeans would fall down. But he had a great body. Toned, sexy, and... Shannon had to stop this train of thought, because he was pretty sure he would get a boner. If something wasn't wrong with Fin, that was. "What? What's going on? I... I promise, I guess?" he asked, a knot of worry tensing in his gut.

Fin bit his lip, not sure Shannon's promise would stick. "It's Niko. He's here, in the hospital. You said he was coming to see you tonight, but he's sick. That's why he didn't come."

"What?" Shannon gasped, and without even thinking, did try to sit up. But he was pretty isolated by the braces he was in, and Fin's hands still on his shoulders. "W-What happened? Where is he? How do you know? Why hasn't anyone told me?"

"No one's known until just now. I found him. I had to call 911 because he wouldn't wake up. I went out to the farm to groom Gypsy for the night. It was getting dark and cold. No one was home at your place. All the light were off, but the barn lights were on. Niko was going to vax Gyps this afternoon, with a couple of the other animals and the neighbour's horse. When I got there, Gyps was lying on the ground in the middle of the paddock. I thought she was hurt, or even dead. Maybe a snake bite or something, you know?" Fin shook his head, still feeling his heart beating rapidly in his chest from the panic. "She wasn't. She was lying beside Niko, licking his arm to try to get him to wake up. He was real cold, baby. I thought he was dead."

Shannon's eyes were wide and he started to feel sick... )

Who: Finlay Bennett and Shannon Webster
What: Alone time
Where: Shannon's room, Mount Sinai
When: Saturday

It had been a really long and hard week, to say the least. Fin hadn't expected it to be so hard not to be able to talk to Shannon. He hadn't underestimated how close their bond was, and always had been, but it had just become part of his life to be in touch with Shannon daily. Until Shannon had to have his operation. Then he was kept sedated in the wake of it, until they were confident there had been enough healing around the wound him to be moved. Shannon had woken up, but he had been in so much pain, they ultimately kept him pretty much knocked out on heavy painkillers. If he was awake, he was in tears. Fin still visited him every day, even if they couldn't talk.

In the process of all that, he had gotten to know Zeke. Zeke was a real easy guy to like, and he and Fin hit it off pretty well. It was a good outlet for Fin to have, being able to hear all Zeke's no-filter stories about growing up with Shannon. He could see Shannon and Zeke share similarities in personality. They were both fun and hilarious. Zeke had a challenging past of his own, having survived cancer, and a pretty nasty form of it, from the sounds of it. But he joked about it, and that showed a lot of strength of character. Fin hadn't met Zeke before now because he had been on student exchange in London. Zeke was the sort of colourful character who could probably write a book about his life, even if he was only in his teens.

It was the weekend now - finally - and Fin came to the hospital armed with his laptop, expecting Shannon to still be struggling. When he got there, though, Niko was there with Shannon and it looked like he was actually conversing with him. "Hey," he said in surprise, hurrying in quickly to find that Shannon was awake and he wasn't crying. "Aw, hey, beautiful. Do you know how good it is to see your eyes, huh? Can I hug you, or is that still off-limits?" he greeted him, tearing up as he took Shannon's hand with a smile. Niko ruffled Fin's hair with a smile and told them he'd let them have some alone time. That was one thing Fin truly adored about all of Shannon's family; they accepted him, and had kept him involved right through this whole thing.

Finally, there had been some progress with Shannon's condition. He had been waking up, but because he was on such strong painkillers, he had been pretty out of it. When he had been waking with his family, he was asking for Fin. Only Fin, could only get there after school, so by the time he got there, Shannon had the afternoon dose of the medication and was crashed out again. Shannon's parents had been amazing keeping Fin completely in the loop with what was happening. Shannon was in a hell of a lot of pain. More than they anticipated, even if they had anticipated a lot in the wake of the operation. They thought the anesthetic and operation had flared up his CRPS. Fin felt helpless, and even if Shannon slept, he still went and sat with him every afternoon after school until visiting hours were over.

The one time Shannon did wake when he was there, he saw Fin was there, and just burst into tears. He was too upset to talk, so Fin just sat there and held him, promising he was there every day for him. This was the hardest thing Fin had to face in his life. He was exhausted because he wasn't sleeping well from worrying how much pain Shannon was in. He was mostly off the planet and moody at school, especially whenever people tried to ask him about Shannon. He was just going through the motions. He knew it would be hard. He just had to keep taking each day as it came.

It was Tuesday evening, and even if he had been trying to focus on doing his homework while he sat with Shannon that evening, his head was hurting too much and he couldn't concentrate. he had set his biological textbooks aside to hold Shannon's hand, stroking little circles in his hair with his other hand was he watched him sleep. He was leaning on the side of the bed by Shannon. No matter how much he sat and watched him, he couldn't get used to see him like this. He was still in a surgical neck brace and laid flat. There were drains from the op site, he was on oxygen, he had IVs, and monitors keeping a good check on him. It was all necessary evils. Maybe one of the hardest parts was not being able to talk to Shannon, when they had talked every single day since they met.

Lugubrious
adj. 1. Mournful, dismal, or gloomy, especially in an affected, exaggerated, or unrelieved manner

The one thing any parent worthy of the title in this world never wanted was their children to be hurting. From the moment they're born, you try to do everything in your power to prevent that. One of the hardest lessons you need to learn as a parent, in the very early days, is that you can't always prevent it. Walker had raised his daughter as a single father, and sacrificed many things to ensure she never wanted or needed for anything. He was determined to still give her the love of both parents, even if his partner passed away from testicular cancer when Reecy was only an infant. From there on, he vowed his life was for her.

This led to him becoming a mature-aged student at Med School. It had always been a dream of his, but it never quite got there when he was younger. It was one way he could provide for his daughter, and he did the hard yards. The very hard yards. Some days, he didn't even know how he made it through. Like every parent, he had those days where it felt like he was failing everything. Like he would never be able to make it through, and everything he did was wrong. That was just all part and parcel.

Today, it had been one of his hardest days of being a father... )

"Are you sure your eyes are covered and shut?!" Shannon asked for about the sixth time once Fin had arrived at his place. Fin was going to be staying the night, but it was literally impossible for Shannon to be able to hide his present up until Christmas. There had been all sorts of potential ideas around how to pull that off. Shannon had brainstormed with his family, until ultimately Niko pointed out that what was a couple of days, all things considered? Christmas didn't have to be isolated to just one day. Besides, once Fin's present had arrived at Shannon's place, there was no way he could keep his excitement at bay and try to pretend around his boyfriend there was no big deal going on.

"Oh, wait! Fuck! Don't take another step, you're about to run into the coffee table!" he warmed quickly, waving his hands. He wheeled himself over to where Fin was standing in a blindfold he asked his mom to put on his boyfriend, and took Fin's hand. "Come here. Okay, you can open them!" Sitting on the coffee table in a basket lined with Christmas blankets and a big red bow tied around the handle was a tiny red micro teacup poodle puppy in all her adorable glory. "Merry Christmas, baby!"

Shannon was pretty pumped about the fact his folks were letting him have pretty much the first non-kid party of his life. It was more proof that they were giving him more and more leeway to have some freedom, despite having been overprotective of him for the past two years after his accident. There were, of course, ground rules. Niko had to play chaperone, and Shannon wasn't sure if that included Jeff or not. Either way, he knew Niko would still let them have fun without being a stick in the mud. Kip was also under strict and severe rules not to bring booze or drugs anywhere near the farm that night. If he was caught with either, there would be consequences likely along the lines of never being able to see Shannon ever again. But mostly, they were given a lot of freedom that night, and Shannon was beyond excited.

Niko had taken him and Fin shopping for all the shit that was needed, and Niko turned out to be way more SRS BSNS on it than either Shannon or Fin. Even early that day, trying to get the place in order once Shannon's parents had gone out of town for a weekend away for their anniversary, Niko took over the decorating because Shannon kept getting too distracted making out with Fin in the middle or trying to blow balloons up and hang decorations. His excuse was that he could reach to hang anything up high anyway, but he did have a prime view of Fin's ass while he was helping. Plus, he was a teenager filled with hormones. It really was the trifecta.

Now the music had started, and it didn't even matter if it was a bit on the loud side, because he couldn't be heard at the next farm over. Niko had about twelve different people on speed dial in case there were any emergencies, and he had a list pinned to the fridge of all the party guests' names and their parent contact. He wanted to make sure everything was above board. Shannon was a responsible kid. He didn't want anyone getting into unnecessary trouble, especially after what Fin had been through when he had been drugged. Shannon felt blessed to have accidentally collected this amazing group of friends, and he was more-than ready to kick his feet up (in spirit only) and have some fun after getting the shitty news he was going to need more surgery now he had grown and there was slipping in the plates in his back.

"That second hot chocolate was totally a bad idea," Fin decided when he came back to his room to where Shannon was waiting in bed for him. It was beyond late by now, but even after the concert, they still had hot chocolate with his dad and Walker before they took a quick shower and came to bed. Then Fin needed to pee, and they were laughing too much for their to really be getting to the point where Shannon again brought up what they had been talking to each other about on Facebook. Granted, Fin had been standing right by him at the concert when they had been talking, but the music was so loud that they couldn't have a normal conversation.

He pulled his pyjama pants off and climbed into the bed beside Shannon. He smiled at him and stroked his face softly, leaning close to gift him a gentle kiss.
