"I see a bad moon a-rising. I see trouble on the way."

Who: Finlay Bennett and Shannon Webster
What: The messenger
Where: Mount Sinai, NYC
When: Sunday night

Fin ran as fast as he could humanly manage all the way through the hospital and up to the floor Shannon's room was on. He was out of breath, red-faced, and sweaty by the time he got there. "Shan... baby..." he panted, trying to catch his breath. He went up to his boyfriend and gently put his hands on his shoulders. "If I tell you something, will you promise me you won't try to move when I do?"

Shannon had gotten to the point where he hated being stuck lying on his back. They had elevated the head of the bed a little more now, so he wasn't completely flat out, but he still wasn't sitting up either. He was looking up at Fin in complete confusion, frowning because why was Fin looking so stressed out? He looked like he had just lapped everyone in the New York marathon or something. Which said a lot, because Fin was fit as all fuck. He wasn't pumped or built. He was slim and if he didn't wear belts, his jeans would fall down. But he had a great body. Toned, sexy, and... Shannon had to stop this train of thought, because he was pretty sure he would get a boner. If something wasn't wrong with Fin, that was. "What? What's going on? I... I promise, I guess?" he asked, a knot of worry tensing in his gut.

Fin bit his lip, not sure Shannon's promise would stick. "It's Niko. He's here, in the hospital. You said he was coming to see you tonight, but he's sick. That's why he didn't come."

"What?" Shannon gasped, and without even thinking, did try to sit up. But he was pretty isolated by the braces he was in, and Fin's hands still on his shoulders. "W-What happened? Where is he? How do you know? Why hasn't anyone told me?"

"No one's known until just now. I found him. I had to call 911 because he wouldn't wake up. I went out to the farm to groom Gypsy for the night. It was getting dark and cold. No one was home at your place. All the light were off, but the barn lights were on. Niko was going to vax Gyps this afternoon, with a couple of the other animals and the neighbour's horse. When I got there, Gyps was lying on the ground in the middle of the paddock. I thought she was hurt, or even dead. Maybe a snake bite or something, you know?" Fin shook his head, still feeling his heart beating rapidly in his chest from the panic. "She wasn't. She was lying beside Niko, licking his arm to try to get him to wake up. He was real cold, baby. I thought he was dead."

Shannon's eyes were wide and he started to feel sick. "B-But he wasn't, right? He's here? He's alive?"

Fin nodded again. "Yeah. The nurses called his folks and your dad. They were still at their work. I don't think he's doing so good, baby. It sounded like his diabetes, maybe? I mean, I had to move away real quick and they rushed him off somewhere. It's only just happened, so I don't know what they're doing. But he wouldn't wake up."

"Oh my god, I need to see him," Shannon said through a sob, voice cracking. But he was stuck, and he wouldn't be allowed to move anywhere.

"I know. I know you want to, baby. But you can't. You got to stay here. They'll come tell you when they know something. He was still breathing, and the paramedics were real good. He just wouldn't wake up. They're real good here in the ER. You know that. They'll take good care of him." Fin was trying to reassure Shannon the best he could, but it felt impossible. It had been a bad enough shock to see Gypsy lying there thinking she was hurt, because she was never outside in the winter evening due to to the chill, but then finding Niko beside her, he had freaked out.

Shannon's eyes were filled with fear and shock as they searched Fin's face, desperate to take his word for it here. "Was he hurt? Did he get kicked by a spooked horse or something? Why was he lying there like that? I don't get it..." His words were choked and barely audible. He was exceptionally close to his uncle. Now all this was happening, and he couldn't get to him.

Fin shook his head, because he really didn't know for sure. "He wasn't hurt. He wasn't bleeding. It was over to the left side, towards the barn. His vet case was there and all. It looked like he might've thrown up, maybe? He got sick and collapsed or something. He wasn't bruised and there was no blood. The paramedics checked all that. I think they said his blood sugar was real high when they checked it. They came quick, though. Like, it was only a few minutes. Your neighbours all came out too. But I don't know how long he had been lying there in the cold. He didn't have a coat on."

Shannon just started to cry when words started to fail him completely. Fin perched on the side of the bed beside him, leaning over to hug him, albeit extremely carefully. Fin kissed his head and rubbed his chest softly, but like it was possible to settle him down. None of that was possible until they got news that Niko was at least going to be okay. Fin wished he could make that promise to Shannon, but he just... couldn't. He had seen how sick Niko had looked lying there motionless, and no matter what way he thought about it, he didn't know at all if Niko really would be okay or not.
