Who: Max Sullivan and Blaize Lamont
What: TLC, Maximum Style
Where: Casa de Campbell, Upper East Side
When: After this
Ali and Mark’s shared-custody of Jamie was like a well-oiled machine. There had never been a single issue with it because they both refused to make something like that impact negatively on their child. It hadn’t even gone to court, not even close. They sat down one night and make a list of joint-parenting agreements and both signed in. Nothing had ever swayed from it. What it boiled down to right now was Jamie stayed with Mark every other weekend, and any time through the weekend she wanted to. The only exception these days was whether Justin was ill or not, because it could affect what was going on in Mark’s life. Sunshine understood that her big brother was sick. She understood it better than a lot of adults ever would, and with such a wisdom too. She absolutely adored Justin, and vice versa. So general arrangements were flexible with Mark.
Then recently, Mark was ill, which shook things up. Justin back in hospital too. But Mark’s parents were out from Australia indefinitely while Mark was physically incapacitated and having them on-hand to help made the well-oiled machine keep chugging along, just in a different way. Max babysat his niece and nephew all the time, and that day, part of his job was to deliver Sunshine to Mark’s place so her nana and granddad could take her to hospital to visit Justin and her daddy for a little while. She would collect Dory to go with her, because Justin had special permission to have Dory with him even in hospital because she was a working dog now that he was conscious. Even so, Mark was shooting to get Justin home after the weekend if he was doing okay.
( Max was on the receiving end of a pile of sloppy little girl kisses from his niece, followed by warm hugs from Nana Campbell who was taking the babysitting baton... )

Who? Max Sullivan and Leo Bronson
What? Date night
When? Friday night
Where? The Bronson place
Leo always looked forward to spending time with Max, even when the other guy wasn't feeling his best. He didn't like for Max to be feeling poorly, because nobody wanted that for someone they cared about, but they were learning how to deal with it together, and that was a big thing. Max was struggling, but he hadn't pushed Leo away and that was a huge thing. Leo couldn't be sure he would've been the same if the shoe were on the other foot, but he treasured the feeling that Max let him be close, even when he wasn't feeling well. It was a special thing in a new relationship, when the feelings of not wanting to embarrass yourself could be at their strongest.
He'd dropped Kolbie off at Toby's house, and then picked up Max, who still had damp hair from his shower, but was freshly shaven and smelled amazing. He looked tired, though, which Leo knew was pretty constant for him now, what with not feeling well and trying to learn how to deal with what was going on with his body. But he gave Leo a smile when he met him at the car.
A short drive, and a quick walk from the ZipCar spot, and they were back at Leo's place in the livingroom on the sofa. "I kind of wish I'd had a chance to see your Tom Hanks in Castaway look, handsome," Leo said with a grin, leaning over to kiss Max gently on the cheek. "Although I have to admit, if you broke up with me to start a relationship with a volleyball, I'd be heartbroken."

Who? Rhett George and Max Sullivan
What? Closure
When? Monday night, simultaneous to Leo and Jace's visit
Where? Ali and Andy's place
Rhett wasn't sure exactly how any of this was going to go down. He knew without a doubt that he needed to talk to Max, and that he wouldn't really get closure until he did, but it was no easy thing to do facing the mistakes that you'd made in the past with someone that you genuinely cared for and loved. Max had moved on and found a lovely guy from what Gabe had told him, and Rhett didn't want any unfinished business between himself and Max to interfere with his own newly-beginning relationship with Tristan. They both needed to meet face to face to talk out the past, or, at least Rhett knew, that he himself would never fully move on from it.
Which was what brought him to Ali's door. When the FBI agent answered, she didn't exactly bitch him out, but it was very clear that she wanted to be sure that he wasn't going to upset Max. Rhett assured her that he'd just come to talk, and that he knew that Max had a boyfriend and wouldn't dare to try to do anything to hurt him. It was only when she was satisfied with that that she allowed Rhett to go in to see Max. He had a room of his own at Ali's, and when Rhett and Ali knocked on the door and were told to come in, they found Max sitting on the floor playing Legos with his little niece. Ali called Sunshine to join her in the kitchen for chocolate milk while Rhett and Max had a chat, and Rhett stood in the doorway awkwardly when mother and daughter disappeared down the hallway. "Hi," he finally said when Max was looking at him. "Long time no see."

I know that lately our close friend group hasn't sort of been that at all, and for whatever reason, we're not as close as we used to be in college. But I think now is the time for us to get our heads out of our arses and fix that, because Rosie needs us and she deserves it. She shouldn't have to be the one who keeps the friendships going all the time.

Who: Max Sullivan and Rose Shaw
What: Friends Forever
Where: Ali and Andrew's home
When: Saturday
Lately, Max was spending most of his time lying down. He slept a lot, but when he wasn't sleeping and trying to get back on his feet, he kept having these dives in his blood sugar that would make him dizzy, or outright cause him to pass out. Not at all uncommon (apparently) considering how sick he was pre-diagnosis and his body now had to adjust to being balanced out. He had to, in turn, adjust to a whole new way of living. But they were certainly seeing why it was recommended he didn't go home to his lonely little apartment alone when he was discharged.
That day, Rosie was coming to visit. She said she had an appointment in the morning, but she would be over with Daisy afterwards. Angel had a work commitment about a new album he had written for Daisy and it was getting close to recording it. You wouldn't hear Max turning down any offers of visitors. He was a people person and being sick sucked. He liked company, but he knew his friends were busy. They had lives, and babysitting him wasn't part of it. Needless to say, he was jumping out of his skin from excitement about seeing Rosie and his little honorary niece, Daisy. She was just as beautiful and adorable as his own biological niece and nephew. Max loved kids to bits.
But he had dropped off into a snooze waiting for her to come. He was on the sofa with a throw rug over him, one leg hanging over the edge where he had dropped the TV remote on the floor when he dozed off. "Maxi, Rosie's here," he heard infiltrate his nap with a soft shake of his shoulder. He woke up, looking around blearily to find Andy there with Jack on his hip. Max couldn't be left alone, but he was going to take Jack for a walk in the park while Rose visited. Sunshine was at her dad's because it was his weekend with her.

Who? Leo Bronson and Max Sullivan
What? "Forget the urgency, and hurry up and wait..."
When? After Max has regained full consciousness.
Where? Mt. Sinai, ICU
Leo wasn't supposed to be here. He was fully aware of that. The only visitors generally allowed in the ICU were family members, which Leo was not. He wasn't Max's blood... only someone who really cared about him. And he knew that he owed Christian big for getting him in here -- though it may have only been because Jace had actively threatened Evan's dick if Christian didn't let Leo in to see Max. He knew how much his best friend was worrying here, and he would pull strings if necessary to help him.
Which was how Leo came to be standing next to Max's bed. The other guy wasn't unconscious because of his illness, but he was sleeping because he was so damn tired all the time from having been through the ringer with his health. Leo stood there quietly for a long time, not touching Max or saying anything because he didn't want to wake him. But the next thing he knew, he was reaching out to take Max's hand... the one that didn't have IV needles in it, and holding it very gently in his own. This was one of the scariest things he'd ever been through, but he sure as hell wasn't giving up on Max.

Who: Ali Connor and Leo Bronson
What: In Case of Emergency
Where: ED, Mount Sinai
When: After THIS and THIS
Those sorts of phone calls you don't want to get when you're at work... or any time for that matter. As a mum, you always worried it was going to be bad news about your kids and because her baby boy had been ill, she had her phone on her at work anyway. Andy had said that Jack was a lot more perky in the recent hours, so it must have just been a big of a bug he picked up and shook it quickly. There was also the fact Max was sick. They had chatted on Facebook a little that morning, and he was going to try to rest it out, and she made sure he had Andy on quick dial. Andy was home with Jack for the day, and Mark had a day off so Sunshine was with him and Justin.
Ali didn't know Leo, but of course she knew of him. She and Max were incredibly close and she was the one Max spilled his guts to all the time. She was his big sister, that was her job. She knew of his insecurities and his worries, especially lately when it came to relationships. It was always going to be a tipping the tightrope situation until he figured out how he felt.
But, the poor bugger, he had gotten sick on the date and it was easy to just assume it was the same bug Jack caught, and only a few weeks earlier, Mark and Justin had too. Then she got that chilling call, and she fucking dropped everything to get to the hospital as quick as she could. Andy met her there with Jack, and even though she knew Leo was probably here somewhere worried as fuck, she had to find out what was going on with Max first. If he was sick enough to need to come to the hospital, it was very serious because Max had a real aversion to blood. One peek and he could be out cold. Therefore, he wasn't a fan of hospitals.
It wasn't for awhile that she managed to get some time with Riley to get a complete picture of what was going on, and she discovered talking to him why it was taking the time it was. Max was being admitted and Andy was going to sit with him because he was sleeping and Ali didn't want him to be completely freaked out when he woke up. If he woke up. He was hovering in a danger zone where he had been very close to slipping into a coma. It still might happen, it just depended on how he responded things.
She had Jack on her hip and he was tired, resting his little head on her shoulder while he sucked on his pacifier and had his hand gripped around the pocket of her shirt. She didn't really know who she was looking for, but she was pretty sure she knew when she spotted him. She went up to the guy about Max's age in the ER waiting room. "Are you Leo?" she asked softly.

"Either you decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean." - Christopher Reeve
It didn't take very long for Leo to know that he wanted to be there for Max when he was feeling shitty. He almost regretted having left Max overnight when he was so sick, but it was a first date, and offering to stay the night might have been a little bit forward. But right now, he couldn't help thinking that being forward was the last thing he should've been worried about, because Max was really fucking sick, and Leo had called him, but he openly admitted to being too weak to get to the door to buzz him up. There was a moment where he'd nearly panicked and started bawling uncontrollably, but that wouldn't help anyone at all, and he managed to keep a grip on his emotions, at least long enough to call 911.
( The police arrived, along with an ambulance, and lucky for Leo, they were able to easily get into the building... )

Who: Max Sullivan with Leo Bronson
What: Jinxed, or something
Where: Max's apartment
When: Day after THIS
It seemed like that if Max was going to be a drama queen with a new love interest, he was going to do it with a bang. First breaking his wrist with Rhett, and now that was over and Leo was in the picture, getting spectacularly sick in front of him and ruining their first date. He had been hoping for the past few hours that it wasn’t going to be some sort of jinx, and it would be doomed from the start like his last attempted romance.
But now, he could barely remember texting with Leo. There was a vague recollection, but a hazy confusion had set it. What had happened, was on the most recent trip to the bathroom to both pee and puke, he was going to add a third P to the equation by passing out. He didn’t realise he had done it, he just woke up on the bathroom floor beside the toilet with no memory of how he got there. And that was where he still was.
( His cell phone was lying on the tiles beside him, still functioning thanks to a glass screen protector that saved the screen when he dropped it... )

Who: Max Sullivan and Leo Bronson
What: First Date
Where: Max's Place
When: Saturday night
This really wasn't Max's day. He had been trying to cram for finals before he took over babysitting for Ali for the afternoon so she could get thoroughly laid because Andy had been away on a conference all week. He had just been running behind the eight ball and couldn't seem to get his shit together. Okay, so he was often awkward and got his shit together in a uniquely-Max sort of way, but his planets definitely weren't in alignment that day. It had all climaxed with Jack puking all over him right before Ali came to collect him and Sunshine to take them home. She had done the cleanup while Max jumped into the shower to try to wash as quickly as he could before Leo was due to arrive. His apartment looked like Babies-R-Us had barfed all over it with baby boy toys and little girl toys were strew all over the place. When Uncle Max played, Uncle Max played hard.
He just hadn't pre-empted the fact Leo might be early, and he was just in the middle of singing into his shampoo bottle after perfecting a shampoo mohawk when he heard the apartment buzzer go. "Shit, fuck, shit and fuck!" he cussed and jumped out of the shower, nearly slipping on the wet tiles. He grabbed his towel and bolted up the hall to buzz Leo up.
Leo arrived just as Max had giving his hair a rough dry to divest himself of looking like a drowned rat, but the alternative was his wet hair sticking up in all directions. He only, by a split second, managed to knot the towel around his waist when Leo knocked on the door and he opened it up. "I'm so sorry. I lost all track of time and I had this spew explosion happen and I..." He realised he hadn't even picked out anything to wear at that point. He was standing there in a towel, still half wet, hair looking like Einstein. Really not a good start. "Give me two minutes?"

Who: Ali Connor and Max Sullivan
What: Heart-to-heart
Where: Ali & Andrew's home
When: After THIS
With Ali still on maternity leave after having baby Jack, Andrew had been working a few extra shifts just so cashflow was still comfortable. Usually they would spend their kid-free days having time together, usually in bed, because with a lively five year old and a young baby, lovemaking often went by the wayside. Not today, though. It had been the intention, but Andrew was worn out from a hard week at work and fell asleep in the middle of foreplay, which just amused Ali. She was used to being married to a shift worker, and a hard worker at that. Andrew was such a beautiful, chivalrous, traditional guy. Providing for his family was very high on the priority list even if they were comfortable financially.
So, Ali just let him sleep. If he crashed out that hard, he needed it. She had tucked the covers in around him and drew all the curtains so the room was dark and no daylight was escaping in through any cracks. Then she kicked back on the sofa to marathon Once Upon a Time with a pot of tea. Of course, only after she caught up on some housework and doing laundry. They mostly used cloth nappies with Jack, relying on disposable only when they went out or he was being babysat by someone. There was always a pile of laundry to catch up on. Thank fuck for dryers.
She was so chilled out that she lost track of time and when the apartment buzzer went, she jumped in fright and jumped up to get the door so it didn't wake Andrew. When she found Max there, her eyebrows shot up. "You're early. You're never early. What's happened? Is Jackie sick? Are you?" she panicked, locking right into Mum Mode and checking on the baby, the cupping Max's chin with her hand to look him over too.

Okay, so tonight Harley wanting to make himself scarce while Julian had the evening with his family led to The Bondi (and yours truly) playing host to Liam, Harley, Beau, and Max for a "quiet drink". I thought at least two of these lads were teetotal, but apparently not. When they got there, they hooked up with Jax and Dex.
Tabletop topless dancing, almost complete Full Monty stripping, lap-dancing, tequila body shots, drunk Karaoke, humping the piano, dirty dancing, a tutorial on the benefits of "Naked Yoga", and an actual marriage proposal from a chick later, I think an epic fuck ton of Tylenol is going to be needed tomorrow.
Plus, I think Dex and Jax fucked in my office.
Fucking priceless. I apologise to all the significant others who I am going to deliver this lot home to.
The moral of the story? Never leave a 'live for the moment' American in possession of a bottle of tequila in the company of three Brits without supervision...
PS. There may or may not be a new piercing or tattoo on at least one of the culprits...
( Photographic evidence (the cleanest I could find) )
