"Either you decide to stay in the shallow end of the pool or you go out in the ocean." - Christopher Reeve

That moment of disorientation when you woke up in someone else's bed was completely foreign to Brendan. Waking up in someone else's bed naked was a new experience and his hazy mind took a few moments for him to realise where he was and why he was naked. He didn't even sleep naked alone, and that was the first thing he realised when he woke and scrambled to prop himself up on his elbow to wave through the confusion. He was naked, the bed was facing the wrong way, there was a streak of light coming in from between the curtains of a window that wasn't supposed to be right at the end of the bed.

That was because he wasn't in his own bed naked, and he wasn't alone... )

Who: Lisa and Caden Drake
What: Setting aside one's own issues
Where: Neuro Waiting Room, Mount Sinai
When: Sunday morning

Lisa was so new to the City that she hadn't gotten the chance to get to know many people in Caden's life, however Casper definitely was one of them. The young man was bright, bouncy, had a wicked sense of humour, and all-round impossible not to love. She had, stupidly, been hesitant when she heard Caden was dating someone just a couple of years older than her son, but age was just a number and 10 years really wasn't a long period of time.

Waking up that morning, checking her phone had to take a back seat. She was crippled with morning sickness, and it had distracted her from everything else. She still hadn't told anyone her guilty little secret yet. She was trying to find the right moment, and the right way. In the meantime, work had kept her busy, and time had slipped away from her. Once she cleaned herself up and was about to take a shower, she quickly checked her phone and found a string of text messages there from Caden.

She settled on just brushing her teeth and throwing on something presentable before she grabbed a cab and hurried over to the hospital. "Caden!" she called out, spotting her brother pacing up and down the corridor as soon as she stepped out of the elevator. "What's happening? Is Casper okay?"

I'll call you later in the day about this, but just so you have a head's up for Justin - I may not be able to attend the awards ceremony tonight. I will find someone to attend in my place, however. Someone Justin will be comfortable with. I really apologise, but Casper will be in hospital at least overnight for now.

Who: Casper Price and Caden Drake
What: Totally not dead
Where: Mount Sinai Hospital
When: Evening following THIS

When Casper woke up and found Caden sitting by him holding his hand, the first thing his brain decided to do was give a laugh of relief. "Fuck, thank god I'm not dead," he said and it was also a relief to realise that the awful pain in his head had eased quite significantly. He was clinging to Caden's hand for dear life, though. He had seriously been scared he would die once the doctors had started to explain what they had to do to fix him. He had even, in a panic, told them he was 'allergic to everything' and Caden had given him this 'WTF are you doing?!' look once he did. The only response he had been able to come up with was that he didn't know if he was allergic to anything, and he didn't want them to kill him. How your mind could be a weird and wonderful place when you were Casper Price.

Apparently he hadn't died, though. It was a good start, and he would take it. He felt better than he had the day and night before. The pain in his head had been horrific and the pain killers hadn't touched it at all. It was scary to face something like that. The first thought always was that you had a brain tumour and it was going to kill you within the hour. Though was in too much pain to really analyse what it was beyond just wishing it would stop. What it turned out to be was a leaking aneurysm that was very likely caused by the bungee jumping. It really wasn't the saving face evidence he wanted that he didn't just have a weak stomach.

"Am I going to die in, like, the next day or so? Because I really fucking wanted to ride that World's Biggest Rollercoaster. I was supposed to go there after summer..." he lamented and his grip on Caden's hand tightened just that little more. He was scared. Really scared.

Fuck, I have like a billion and four messages coming in. I'll get to everyone, I promise. Just probably not tonight. I love you all, though. Seriously. x

Do you stage a fatherly intervention if your kid is standing by a wall hugging a Tony Award with O.O face?

Sometimes you have these moments in life where it hits you that everything is perfect just as it is, no matter how hard it was to get there.

My son's amazing acceptance speech... )

It's 7am and I'm still awake! And I have lost a shoe and a sparkly feather boa somewhere. Anyone seen a stray shoe?

PS. I'm not drunk.
