Who: Mark Campbell with Justin Campbell, and Katrina Carlisle
What: Pissed-off Father Syndrome
Where: Campbell Apartment
When: Saturday evening

Mark was woken up from his nap with the sound of the apartment doorbell ringing. He must have been sleeping soundly, because he didn't pinpoint what it was in the first few moments of groggy wakefulness. Justin had barely gotten out of bed all day, save for trips to the bathroom and a couple of cups of peppermint tea which he had taken to after Gen suggested he try it. He wasn't feeling the best, but his mood seemed stable. He was lethargic and a little hazy, still very pale and uncomfortable, but they could see a definite improvement to how he was a few days ago.

It was when Justin had left half his cup of tea on the kitchen counter and said he was going back to bed before he threw up, Mark figured it was a good opportunity to take a nap himself, still recovering from the poorly-timed heart attack. So Gen seized the opportunity to go shopping with Mark's parents. They needed to stock up on groceries, especially the essentials, and it would leave the apartment quiet for a little while so Justin could get some sleep. He wouldn't have even been snoozing half an hour before the doorbell was going, though, and not even thinking that he was in his pyjama pants and tank top, he went to get the door before the ringing woke Justin. He did pause very briefly at the door of his son's room to check in on him, but the room was dim from the curtains mostly closed over and the teenager-shaped lump in the bed was still and settled.

He pulled Justin's bedroom door over, leaving it open just a crack and went to answer the door. And as soon as he did, he wished he fucking hadn't even bothered... )

NARRATIVE, SCENE COMPLETE

Who: Mark Campbell and Gen Hart
What: Trying to break bad news
Where: Campbell apartment
When: After THIS

Mark had sat on the sofa with Justin while the poor kid cried. He was in shock, and now probably scared his mother would succeed and take him away. He fell asleep eventually and Mark was still sitting there with Justin's head in his lap as he slept when Gen came home with his mum and dad. They must have known something was wrong as soon as they saw Mark's face, because all three of them seemed to check over Justin with their eyes to make sure he was still breathing. Mark thanked his folks for helping Gen with the shopping, and then told Gen they had to talk about some things. His parents didn't hesitate and going out for an early dinner to give them some privacy.

He carefully got up from the sofa and nestled Justin's head back on a pillow in lieu of his lap and pulled the throw rug over him, tucking it in around him. He and Gen moved onto the kitchen, where Mark sat at the dining table tiredly and dropped his head into his hands to gather his thoughts. "Justin's mother was here," he began, because there was really no other way to head into this. There was no way to beat around the bush, which wouldn't do anyone any good anyway.

Inner Strength

Inner strength wasn’t something Justin ever had much of. When he was weak, he was weak in the mind, body and soul. Every fibre of him struggled to function. What he really wanted to do was track his biological mother down where she was staying in the City and just hurt her, to somehow match all the ways she hurt him over the years. The hardest part about his illness would always be the self-destruction. He held an empty glass in his hands, rolling it back and forth between his palms. He had really tried to wrap his head around the fact his mom had shown up to take him back to Chicago, but it just sent all his thoughts and emotions derailing into another proverbial trainwreck in his head.

TRIGGER WARNING: Self harm... )
