Who: Kip Pryor and Jesse Hartley
What: Epilepsyoda
Where: Neurological Unit, Mount Sinai
When: Sunday night
It wasn't like Kip hadn't been told that if he had a bad fit that didn't stop after a few minutes, he would need to be admitted to hospital for closer monitoring. That was what happened. What's worse, he had one in the shower and collapse. Clint had to find him unconscious, naked, wet, and hanging half in/half out of the shower. Kip didn't want to talk about any of that.
In fact, he had barely said anything to anyone since he got here. He woke up in hospital. They had him on a drip, and had those oxygen tubes in his nose that tasted clinical in the back of his mouth and gave him a dry and sore throat. He was in a gown, tucked in to the hospital bed neatly, and the lights were down low. Mostly, since then, he was just sleeping on and off. The only way he knew anyone was there when he woke up that time was when the nurse was there taking his obs and told him two bunches of flowers had been brought for him - one from Angela, on behalf of that squad, and one from Shannon and Fin. Bad news travelled fucking fast.
Now he was lying there, tired and headachy, but not being able to fall asleep this time. He was thirsty and he needed the bathroom. He was trying to hold off ringing that damn buzzer when a nurse he hadn't seen before appeared at the door. "I can need to go to the bathroom. Can you help me?"

Who: Callum MacDonald and Jesse Hartley (and other family members welcome to crash if they like)
What: Sibling support
Where: Neurology Critical Care Unit, Mount Sinai
When: Sunday evening
It was Finals time, and Callum's last year studying at Harvard. It had been a long and hard course to have gotten through, and it was hard to believe his college days were nearly over. Possibly the most awesome thing was that he had already scored a job. With Ethan pulling some strings via Richie, Adrian Hewitt, big time Movie Producer and Richie's boyfriend, had contacted him and offered him an internship on the movie he was currently filming mostly in New York, but also on location elsewhere. It was a huge project, and Adrian said as soon as Callum graduated and was qualified, he would give him a paying job. It was fucking incredible. His classmates had been jealous as all fuck. Many of them would struggle for years even to get their food in the door like Callum had, and he didn't even have to do anything.
It meant Callum was spending more time in New York, where he would permanently move once Finals were over. But no matter how crazy things were right now, Callum made the time to come see his half-brother in hospital as soon as he could. That Sunday night, he specifically left free to get to see Jesse. Even though Jesse wasn't her biological son, their mom had been coming to see Jesse frequently and she had been keeping Callum updated, as had Ethan, who was one of Jesse's doctors. Jesse had been fine with any of his family getting medical updates on both him and Jace. Jesse might technically have come through his bad seizure okay, that didn't mean he was feeling okay.
Callum arrived with some hot chocolate and found Jesse napping in a recliner chair beside Jace's hospital bed. Not quite understanding the ins and outs of this whole thing (he was new to the scenario, not having knowing Jesse even existed until very recently), he saw Jace was awake and assumed that meant something. "Oh, shit - Jess, wake up, dude! He's awake, look!" he said quickly, putting the hot chocolate down to give Jesse's arm a small shake to rouse him.

Who: Jesse Hartley and Damien Larson
What: Long time, no see
Where: Neurological Critical Care Unit, Mount Sinai
When: Friday evening
Life sometimes just got hard, and now was one of those times. It was the first time in the entirety of Jesse and Jace's relationship that they both had seizures simultaneously. Jace had been having the warning signs. He had been phasing out on everyone and sleeping a lot. It was while Jesse had been at work that Nana Turner had been sticking close to Jace and keeping an eye on him. When she realised Jace hadn't moved in his sleep for some time and couldn't rouse him, it was evident Jace was having seizures. It was never easy with Jace's type of epilepsy because outwardly, he could be completely still, have his eyes open even, but he wasn't there. The seizures shut him down and he became a shell. They weren't as evident as Jesse's grand-mal ones, that were the epitome of what people thought an epileptic fit was.
Jesse still wasn't entirely well himself. His seizures completely drained him and in the wake of them, he was exhausted from head-to-toe and usually got locked in a crippling migraine for a few days. They kept him in hospital having some infusion treatment, but thankfully he had a room with Jace. He was feeling a bit better now, but still had a dizzying headache. And he was worried sick. His time was spent resting in his own hospital bed, trying to regain his strength, or sitting by Jace's bed holding his hand. Jace had been unconscious for some time until he began to come around. He just wasn't there, even if he was waking up. He looked awake, but he would just stare into space and wasn't responding to anyone, wasn't responsive to pain. The worst part about this was that every knew it could be any moment Jace had one bad string of seizures and lost brain function.
That could mean he ended up in a vegetative state, worst case scenario. Lesser possibilities were he was there, but couldn't speak or communicate. He might not be able to move around or walk. So far, with Jace's brain injury, although he had lowered functioning, he was still intelligent and he still coped. He could speak and communicate on a lot of levels, he had incredible art abilities, he was fluent in sign language. Some days were hard when his brain kind of skipped beats. There was just always an ever-present risk his next seizure could claim important parts of his functioning. Times like this, Jesse was stressed and scared. He didn't know what he would do if he lost Jace.
He was sitting there holding Jace's hand. Jace had his eyes open and his head was sort of lolled to the side, but he wasn't there. Jesse could life Jace's hand to kiss his fingers, or softly touch his face while he tried to talk to him, but there was no response. It could simply be a matter of Jace's brain in safe mode while he recovered from the bad seizures he'd had, or this could be beginning signs of the worst case scenario coming. It was too early to know, all they could do was wait and see how Jace responded to treatment, and see if he recovered over the next few days and weeks. The waiting game was awful.
"Can I come in?"
Jesse was pulled out of his own dazed stare where he had been stroking Jace's finger and just watching his face. He turned his head to look over his shoulder and saw Damien standing hesitantly in the doorway. Once upon a time, they had been best friends. Then shit happened, and they hadn't been close in a long time. Still, Jesse gave Damien a faint, tired smile and nodded. "Yeah, 'course you can. Long time, no see."

Who: Jesse Hartley and Liam Morgan
What: Much needed break
Where: Hospital Cafeteria
When: Friday night
Jesse had really earned his break that evening. The shift seemed to be going on forever, and after it finished, he was taking a few days off to care for Jace, who had been really hazy in the head the last couple of days, and he was sleeping a lot. That could either mean he was coming down with something and it was disrupting his functioning, or it could be warning signs of seizures. Jesse made sure before leaving for work that Evan, Christian, and/or Nana would be with Jace at all times while he was at work. The lucky part about being a casual worker was Jesse could take or deny shifts as he needed to. It could also mean he had a hell of a lot of work if he chose, or he decided to just take some piecemeal shifts here and there to fit in with being Jace's carer, and his ongoing study to be a Nurse Practitioner in Brain Injury Medicine.
Once he got his dinner and moving away from the cash register with his tray, he spotted Liam sitting at one of the smaller tables alone, unwrapping a sandwich. Jesse went over to join him with a smile and actually sighed heavily in relief as he sat down and took the weight off his feet. "Hey, buddy. You okay? You look exhausted," he noted, taking some sugar sachets to pour into his cup of tea.

Who: Jace and Jesse Hartley
What: TLC
Where: Home
When: Thursday evening
It was Thursday evening, and it was on the back of a mostly quiet day. Jesse still wasn't doing the best, and they had been at the hospital during the day for him to get some blood tests and a CT and MRI scan of his brain just to see if there was anything more worrying going on than a straightforward exacerbation of his epilepsy. It had taken a lot out of him and he had been lying on the sofa since they got back from hospital, dozing on and off. Dinner had been a little while ago, but Jesse hadn't been hungry and only picked at the meal Christian male, having only a few bites. He went back to lie on the sofa and Jace did some of their laundry that had been piling up, including washing their sheets and shoving them in the dryer so they would have some clean and fresh bedding going to bed that night.
When the last load was put into the washing machine, walking past the living room quietly, he found Jesse was awake again and came in to see how he was. He laid down on the sofa beside him, arms wrapping around him in a cuddle and a tender kiss brushing his lips. "You're all cosy," he murmured appreciatively and started to rub Jesse's stomach through his t-shirt. "If you want to go to bed, I can put the spare set of sheets on. I just know they're getting a little old now. We need to buy some new stuff for our new place."
Their offer on the new apartment had been accepted and the sale was going through fast-tracked because the sellers were keen. Soon, they would be packing to move, but at this rate, they might need to hire someone because Jesse just didn't have the strength for it. "Do you want to talk about the tests you had today, or you're not ready yet?"

Who: Jace and Jesse Hartley, Christian Casey and Evan Turner
What: Apartment Hunting
Where: NYC
When: Friday morning
Although it had been a plan for a long time now to get a much bigger apartment that could effectively give Jesse and Jace their own quarters for their married life, whilst still being under the same roof as Evan and Christian in case they needed help, life had fucking hit the roof. With Jace falling sick over Thanksgiving and still being under the weather at Christmas, the wedding plans, the wedding, the honeymoon, and then Jesse falling ill, apartment hunting had been put on the backburner. Before that, when they had done some hunting, Jace had managed to find things in every one of them they looked at that he hated. He was a picky bitch, and if this was going to be his marital home, it had to be perfect.
The place they were currently looking at was huge, without a doubt. It had a communal kitchen and dining room, laundry room and also a large communal living room. Upstairs, there was three bedrooms and a large bathroom. But towards the back of the apartment, there was also a huge bedroom with ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet, and second sitting room that could operate as a separate suite to the rest of the place. There were no stairs to that part of the apartment either. Stairs weren't something Jesse or Jace could navigate if they were sick, and there was too much risk Jace would fall down them on his bad days.
Christian and Evan had been chatting to the estate agent and somewhere around the first part of the conversation, Jace and Jesse had disappeared. The estate agent had finished discussing everything with them and left them to it to explore while she took her phone call. That was about the time that Christian and Evan realised they were alone in the big livingroom. At least, they were were until Jace came back in with messed up hair, zipping up his jeans and hiking a sleeve of his jacket back up to his shoulder, with a telltale smirk on his lips. A moment or two later, Jesse appeared, looking equally as ruffled and trying to tuck his shirt back into his jeans.
Evan and Christian both turned to look at them and Jace just looked back at them, extensively lacking innocence when he asked, "What?" with a smirk on his lips.

Who: Jesse Hartley and Autumn MacDonald
What: Results
Where: Home
When: Thursday morning
Jesse had landed himself on bed rest. It was the strict proviso from Evan that he be allowed home. The seizures had been bad for about a week there, so he had to rest and if he was in bed, at least he was safe if he had another one. If he had to use the bathroom, it had to be with help. He had to sit for a shower (but they had a shower chair for Jace's worst days anyway, so it wasn't a big deal) and unless there was a fire in the apartment, he had to keep his butt in bed, on orders of Evan, Christian, Nana, and most importantly, Jace in threatening bitch mode.
This whole thing had taken it out of Jace too. Which is why Jesse was, indeed, being a good boy on bed rest, but beside him, Jace was fast asleep curled up under the covers and out like a light. He was in a bit of shut-down mode. He had woken up that morning and couldn't remember how to coordinate dressing himself. Evan had shuffled him into the kitchen, gave him some toast to take his pills with and then steered him back to bed with Jesse. Jesse had is headphones in listening to some soft music and flicking through a magazine while Jace slept heavily. A heard of elephants trampling up the hall wouldn't wake him when he was like this. You could rouse him, but you couldn't get him to fully wake up.
He didn't hear when there was knock at the bedroom door but then it opened and he got a surprise to find it was Autumn. He tugged the earbuds from his ears and stopped the music. Along the way, with being sick and his head being a complete mess, he hadn't realised it had gone nearly a week since he and Callum had the sibling DNA test. "Autumn... is everything okay?" he asked her.

How much do I have to pay you and turn into a bitchzilla to get you to discharge my husband from hospital? I just want him home in our bed. Everything sucks.

No, but they should at least name a fucking ward after us. The Hartley Wing has a nice ring to it, I think.
