"In my daughter's eyes."

Who: Amarlie-Rose Satori and Gen Hart
What: Step-by-step
Where: New York City
When: Friday
Amarlie spent Father’s Day evening with Kai watching romcom movies, eating popcorn, and talking about random things. It was the first Father’s Day where Amarlie knew him, knew he even existed, and it was important to honour that. Though, she had battled with the inevitable adopted kid guilt about not going home to San Francisco to see her adopted dad, but a long Skype call with him through the movie allayed any of those fears. Her dad said Kai was just as important in their family now, and she should have the day with him because she had missed seventeen previous ones with him.
Kai had already reached out to Amarlie’s parents in SanFran. By a sheer stroke of miracle, Kai had been living in the same city as them for years. Kai had even worked with Amarlie’s mom when she sometimes referred her younger patients to him for counselling before their surgery. Kai had flown over on a business trip before the car accident and took the time to meet Amarlie’s parents to introduce himself properly. He could fill in some gaps from his side of the story, and they really appreciated it.
Sometime after a dinner of pizza and Ben & Jerry’s for dessert, Amarlie received a text from Gen asking her if she wanted to meet for coffee later this week. She baulked. She didn’t even know how she was supposed to feel about everything, but she knew there had been progress. Gen was back together with Mark. Justin hadn’t been talking much… to anyone. Which was okay. He had times like that. Sasha explained to Amarlie what had happened. She was glad Mark seemed to want to try, and that Justin was accepting of it, but Amarlie didn’t seem to be anywhere in that equation. She pushed down the hurt and just got on with things.
( Only now, she found herself sitting across from Gen at an adorable little table with a silk tablecloth in a private tea room... )

Justin doesn't believe you're legit. He just spilled that tea in a private chat. You have a tough pushing shit up a hill battle, you know.
