What: Movie night, etc.
Where: Cassidy's (Dad's) place, Brooklyn
When: Saturday evening
Cassidy's dad had suggested she should take a turn had hosting a night for all her friends to hang out, she just hadn't been sure if now was the right time for it. Firstly, Shannon was in hospital, so he wouldn't be there and she expected Fin not to come either. She also knew Justin was having a depressive episode, so she didn't really expect him or Sasha to come. She put the idea out there nonetheless. She wasn't in the mood for a party, but her dad had a home theatre room, so a movie night could be fun. Her friends were more into it than she expected. Sasha indicated Justin may want to come, but it would be a matter of playing it by ear, and Fin wanted to come and bring along Shannon's cousin to meet everyone.
Justin and Sasha did come, but it was pretty clear Justin wasn't really engaging here. That was okay, he didn't have to. It was just nice he thought maybe it might help, even just for a little while. Of course, everyone expected the first movie up would be Footloose when they saw Justin was there, but he didn't weight in on the decision process on what should be chosen. He was just sitting on the two-seater sofa with Sasha, watching what was going on, but not throwing his hat in the ring. Some suggested still that they go with Footloose, but he intercepted that. He didn't want to watch it. That was a big sign of how he was feeling. They all watched Toy Story instead.
Then Skylar suggested that rather than watching another movie right up, they all play Never Have I Ever. Everyone seemed keen, so Cassidy printed off a pile of I HAVE and I HAVE NEVER signs for everyone to hold up to play the game. Justin didn't take any off her, so she knew he wouldn't engage in that either. Cassidy couldn't help but worry about him, and she wondered why he chose to come anyway. Until it dawned on her he had come for Sasha. He didn't want to deny Sasha the chance to socialise with them, his new friends, that he would be going to school with. If Justin hadn't come, Sasha wouldn't have either. Though, throughout the course of the game, Sasha had to reveal some amusing facts about himself, which Justin seemed to enjoy.
When the game ended, they just broke off to get some snacks and drinks, and more discussion about the next movie came up. It might not be a standard party, but at least they could all still hang out, despite the tough stuff that had been happening.
