Who: Hunter Alexander and Justin Campbell
What: Counselling session
Where: Outpatients Clinic, Westchester
When: Thursday morning

Hunter had spent a lot of time thinking about the chat he and Melody had about telling Justin and Cassidy the friend they had made in the hospital had suicided. Hunter loved his job, and he loved how much he could help kids struggling with mental illness. But the downside to have success stories was that there were always stories where the outcome wasn't positive. There would always be patients he wasn't able to help, and he wouldn't be able to keep doing this job if he didn't understand that not everyone could be 'saved'. A lot of these kids would always have to face their life with a mental illness. He was a Youth Mental Health Nurse, not a miracle worker.

He knew Melody was right. It meant even more to him that she saw the world in different shades, not just black and white. She also understood mental health, and she knew of Justin's significant battles with it. Had even been instrumental in saving his life one of his worst nights. He knew it could ultimately be worse if they didn't keep things above board with Justin. He struggled with trust issues, and he freaked out when he was blindsided about things. This wasn't just from Hunter's direct observations since Justin came into his care, this had been information Justin's dad had relayed upon Justin's initial admission to the inpatient unit. He had stressed more than once that if Justin found out you were keeping shit from him, he would fly off the handle and the trust would be broken. Mark had said the only reason he was still hanging by the wire was because he was Justin's dad. But he had definitely fucked up a lot with the kid. Now he was understandably protective and didn't want to expose Justin to people potentially breaking his trust because the fallout could be fatal.

Justin didn't come into this appointment like he had been in recent weeks. He wanted to go outside because he felt too closed-in inside the clinic. Hunter brought his files and case notes and they headed outside for the appointment together. Justin was manic. Not in any danger zone, but Hunter observed right up he was restless with maybe an undercurrent of agitation. Shit, this appointment really might not be the time and place to tell him the bad news. "Do you want to tell me what's weighing on you, buddy? If you don't want to talk, that's okay."
