"Will you come with me in the certain knowledge
That the catch is there's no catch at all?
I'll need a soulmate to hold me and a friend for life
And I'm hoping it might be you
Yes, I'm certain it must be you."
• A Friend for Life, Rod Stewart
As she stirred slightly in the bed, Kelly was suddenly aware that there was an arm draped gently around her waist. Her first response was to actually brace herself so that she wouldn’t jump or scream. This wasn’t a sensation she was used to… at least, it hadn’t been in over a year now. Even then, this felt different. The arm was loose and gentle, where her ex’s had always been heavy and possessive in a way that frightened her. This wasn’t her bed, either. All of this was somewhat starting to come together in her head. Kelly was a mother first… she wasn’t a heavy sleeper, and when she woke up, she woke up quickly. Shifting in the bed, she came to face Sam, who was still sleeping peacefully. His breathing was heavy, but steady, and she found herself tucking her head in against his chest and closing her eyes again.
( They were both still fully clothed... )
