There's nothing in the world I can imagine that's harder than having something immensely precious to you, and never knowing how long it's yours, or if it's yours at all.

Who: Walker Chester and Sawyer Bennett
What: Moral Support
Where: Children's Ward, Mount Sinai
When: After THIS and THIS

Sawyer had learned a dad lesson today. It was to remember to turn up his phone after seeing a movie or a show. Or maybe he would never want to go to another movie or show, which was probably a distinct possibility at this point in time. Walker knew that these sort of lessons could be hard, and even harder if your baby was hurting. Reecy had taken care of Fin without question, and Walker knew his daughter was amazing. As soon as she knew Fin didn't just have an upset stomach and he wasn't keeping anything down, she had bundled him up in her car and driven him to the hospital. She picked Mount Sinai, because she knew people who worked there and knew Fin would be in the best hands. Then she stayed and got in touch with Walker, who had, by then, realised he forgot to turn the volume back up on his phone.

Reecy stayed for a little while with Walker. They sat together in the waiting room while Sawyer went through to Fin. Riley ultimately decided he wanted to admit Fin overnight to keep him on some fluids, but also run a few more tests to try to see what might have been causing Fin to start literally vomiting and not being able to stop. By the time he got to the hospital, he had nothing left in him to come out, but his body was still trying. There was no fever, no dizziness, no ringing in his ears, no diarrhea... the things you might expect if he had a stomach bug, food poisoning, or an episode of his condition. It also took three different anti-emetics until he stopped vomiting. Walker agreed, keeping him in overnight was the best thing.

Walker also knew that, without a doubt, the thing that would had broken Sawyer's heart the most here was when they arrived at the hospital, Fin was in tears telling his dad straight up that he hadn't taken any drugs. He repeated it to Riley, three nurses, and also Walker. Walker could visibly see that Sawyer was crushed at this. Fin was still struggling with the isolation and false assumptions that had been inflicted on him.

Walker made himself scarce while Riley organised Fin's transfer to the Children's Ward, admitted under Richie. That was good. Walker would be able to reassure Sawyer even more emphatically that Fin was in good hands. He came back to the Children's Ward with a couple of coffees from the cafe next to the hospital. Reecy had to leave for a business dinnner where she was taking Jude as a date. Fin was settled and sleeping, Sawyer sitting beside him. Walker offered him the cup off coffee and took the seat beside him. "How are you holding up, love?" he asked him.
