"Having a baby is a life-changer. It gives you a whole other perspective on why you wake up every day." - Taylor Hanson

PAST SCENE

Even if Heather had her hands full with three infants of her own, there was no way in hell she wouldn't help out with her best friend's little baby and be the aunty-in-everything-but-blood to him. This was one of those days where Joe's parents had taken the triplets for a few hours to give Heather, a stay-at-home-mom, a break. But when Karla's mom got called to the hospital for an emergency with one of her closest friends who had no close family, and her dad was at work teaching, there was no question she would forgo her own break to help out.

Richie had been asleep in his crib when Heather arrived to take over the reigns from his grandmother. The baby boy's mommy in this equation was absent, though not by active choice... )

Who: Zoran Jennings and those he knows attending his father's funeral
What: The grief process
Where: Green-Wood Cemetery, New York
When: Friday afternoon

Zoran had faced many tough days in his life, but he knew this one would fall somewhere in around the top 3 awful days he had to live through. As much as he had wanted to organise his father's funeral himself, it had come down to choosing to leave his dad in a drawer in the morgue until he was well enough to do all the necessary things, or let someone help him while he was still going through hell with medical treatment.

Melody had been amazing. At first, she offered to do a bit of leg work for him with getting information on funeral directors here, cemeteries who could have a spot for his dad, and a celebrant to officiate the ceremony. Zoran wanted and needed to respect his dad with a proper funeral. He didn't want it to be a quick say a few words and drop him into a hole forever. When push came to shove, he didn't have the strength - emotional or physical - to face arranging the funeral. Melody had stepped in and done all the work after going through everything that Zoran wanted.

He didn't know why he had chosen Melody for the job. He knew anyone in his family would have done it... )
