"A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss... That's the trade-off. But I'll take it all." - Brad Pitt

If, a few months before this, anyone had told Kevin he would be raising a beautiful little boy with Quentin, he might have laughed in their face. But now that he was doing just that, he had to admit that it made him happier than probably anything else he’d ever done. Kevin had spent most of his life working his ass off by day, and partying it off by night. He liked that life. It suited him for a long time… until he’d discovered that he liked being in a relationship and having someone to come home to. And Quentin, after the initial issues they’d faced, became that someone to him. After the night of their first official date, they’d made the decision to put in motion a plan to bring Tanner, the son of one of Sofie’s drug-addicted friends, into their home as a foster child… Hell, Kevin, who’d been a smoker since his mid-teen years even quit smoking in preparation for the arrival of their foster child.

And the plan had worked… )

Who: Lorenzo Chevalier, Lewis Sheldon, Clint Chevalier and Jude Willis
What: Plot twist
Where: Lorenzo and Lewis' apartment
When: Monday

Lorenzo and Lewis caught a mid-morning flight from Louisiana back to New York. There had been some flight reshuffles when the decision was made to stay a bit longer. Lorenzo knew now that he had a lot of explaining to do. Probably even more so by the fact his face was covered in bruises, he had a nasty sutured cut on his temple and basically looked like he had the shit beaten out of him in recent days. Not entirely true. He was the one beating the shit out of someone else, who just happened to get in a few lucky swipes. Something in him had just snapped, and it hadn't been a good mix when his system was already drenched in booze and coke. He wasn't proud of himself, but the guy he beat up still fucking deserved it.

Truth of the matter was, he didn't know what condition he would be in right now if it hadn't been for Lewis coming to Louisiana when Lorenzo had insisted he would be okay. Lewis let him avert the offers for a little while before he stepped up and basically told Lorenzo he was coming, even if he just had to sit there and not say a word while Lorenzo did whatever he needed to do. In the process of all that, Lorenzo had also deflected offers from both Clint and Jude to come with him. He wished he had valiant reasons why he had, but he just basically didn't want them to come. It was hard to explain, and he didn't know how to without hurting their feelings.

Yet, he relinquished to Lewis, and he hoped Clint and Jude could understand that he had done that because he wanted Lewis there. Somewhere during the trip down, seeing his mother, and trying to instigate some closure on that part of his life, he realised he needed his boyfriend there. He wanted him close. He didn't have to be alone, and it was okay to admit he didn't want to be. All of this was also on top of missing his baby girl so much, he had this dull ache in his gut the whole time they were away. He didn't like being separated from her. He planned on that never needing to happen again too.

When the cab dropped them off out the front of their apartment building, Lewis helped him out of the cab because he managed to get a mild concussion and he was feeling a bit worse for wear. Lewis got their bags out and slung one over each shoulder, waiting while Lorenzo had a quick smoke out the front before the went inside. He texted Jude to ask him to bring Holly over there for when they were due back, and asked Clint to come over too. He didn't want to be one of those cunts who was deliberately evasive all the time, trying to get the people who loved him to always guess how he was feeling. He had all intentions of laying cards on the table after he had that time away to collect himself and close the book on that part of his life.

As soon as they got in, Clint and Jude already there, Lorenzo went straight over to where Holly was in her baby bouncer and scooper her up. "Hello, my beautiful baby girl. Did you miss Daddy? Daddy missed you, like you wouldn't believe..." he murmured, kissing over her face and then snuggling her, trying to make up for lost time. "I brought you home the best souvenir ever. Did you miss your Daddy Lew?" he added, pointing to Lewis with a smile. He loved the way Holly light up with giggles whenever she saw Lewis. That, above all else, told Lorenzo he had found his soul mate.
