Who: Gabe George and Tyler Peterson
What: I am on your side, when times get rough
Where: Tyler's hospital room
When: Gabe's first day at work

After the romantic weekend away in Paris that climaxed in his engagement to Ash, it was always going to be hard for Gabe to get out of bed and get going on his first day on the job as a clinical psychologist at Mount Sinai Hospital. It wasn't his first day being a psychologist because he had done a lot of training and working with qualified professionals during his time time at college, but this was his first official job as qualified himself and it was a bit of jumping in the deep end with a hospital this large. He had been told he had a natural knack for the job, though, and he was looking forward to the new challenge. He would still model for Ambrosiere, because he had somewhat become the face of the male line but his psych position would be his main bread and butter. With Ash and Rhett's support and encouragement, he had gotten the confidence to take this on, and despite it being really, really hard to get out of bed after spending most of the weekend in it with Ash, it was time to be a grown-up now.

His cases started out light. He counselled a couple post motor vehicle accident with no real serious injury and just a case of shock, needing reassurance and guidance of how to get through it. Then there was the family in Oncology with a mother just diagnosed with breast cancer, but despite the good prognosis, it was still a terrifying and daunting piece of news to be delivered. Gabe sat with them for a long time and helped them with some ways they could begin to accept what they were facing and be strong for the patient. He would probably work on and off with them for the duration of her treatment when they requested regular sessions with him. It was an awesome outcome for his first day, but he hadn't seen anything yet.

It was the third file to arrive on his desk that he might never actually forget. He sat for two hours there reading the guy's medical, social, criminal and psychiatric history coming all in a full horrible circle of how he ended up a patient in the ICU just now. At first, Gabe had no fucking idea why they were handing him this case on his first day. In fact, he asked his manager that in bewilderment and the only simple response was that the patient hadn't responded to anyone else on the team, so it was at least worth a try. That somewhat scared the shit out of Gabe, but he couldn't just ignore this without trying. At least now when he saw who was listed as the patient's brother. Maybe it was a conflict of interest, but considering Kyle hadn't been involved through most of Tyler's history, Gabe was still going to give it a shot.

Which is why he came to be knocking softly on the door of the hospital room with Tyler's current medical record tucked under his arm. Tyler was lying in the bed hooked up to all the machines that would never not remind Gabe of his own past, but he used the memories as strength in his job rather than weakness. "Tyler? My name's Gabe George, and I'm one of the clinical psychologists here," he introduced himself, handing over his ID for Tyler to see. "I've come to see if you wanted to talk. You don't have to. I'm not a psychiatrist, I don't have any power over your medical decisions and you're well within your rights to turn me away. I know it probably feels like you don't have any of your own decision-making power left, but you do. We can talk if you want to, or I can leave if you don't."

Yeah, I'm bummed we didn't win the Cup. We worked our asses off, and we just fell short. But I have to say that more than anything, the overwhelming feeling right now is relief. Logan, baby... I'm coming home. ♥
