Reecy had been shocked beyond words when she heard she had been nominated for a Tony Award. It didn't last long, though, because the more nominations came, and it was revealed that Justin was up again, along with Kyan and Autumn. The her excitement for some of her favourite people in the world was overtaken by her shock. She generally put herself just below the people she loved. They were more important to her. Especially Justin. He was her honourary little brother, and through all the pain they had ridden out with him, and nearly losing him to suicide more than once, the acknowledgements he got for his incredible talent were so deserved. She was proud, to the point she had been bawling with tears.
She had been oblivious to a party being planned. Not just to celebrate the nominations, but also for her birthday. Her dad had orchestrated the whole thing with Caden. After the performances that night, the Broadway bunch and their family and friends had moved on to the party. It was huge. Huge and incredible. She was happy, and it was a special thing to celebrate her birthday like this. Perhaps one of the best parts of all was seeing her dad there with Sawyer. He looked so content and happy. Her heart soared for him. Plus, Fin was there with Shannon. It took all her self-control not to adopt Shannon as another honourary little brother. He was such a cutie too. When she managed to get Fin alone for a few moments, she ahd teased him about bagging himself a hottie. She received a sweet grin in response.
It wasn't just any old party either. True to Smooshie's form, he was using it as a charity event also - as he should. His charity events were always epic fun. Everyone had a chance to get up on stage to sing, and it was a bit of celebrity-soaked event when push came to shove. Angel, the Electricks boys, Matteo, Justin, Damien, Lachlan, Phoenix, Romeo; the list of performers went on. It was only a matter of time before Justin was pulling Reecy up on stage as one of the main guests of honour.
Soon, she was on stage with just a mic and she started to sing the Diana Ross hit, When You Tell Me That You Love Me. In hindsight, maybe not the best pick for a birthday celebration. Things with Jude had been so off lately, she was doubting there was much of anything left between them. Without even realising what was happening, she had soon found him standing towards the front of the group of people watching her sing. Her eyes had been on him while she was singing, and something in her just buckled and snapped when she was singing. It was one of her favourite songs, but the words were everything she wanted in a relationship. Where had it all gone wrong?
By the end of the song, she was in tears. She looked at Jude one last time and with a soft apology to the audience, she ran off the stage, feeling exposed and vulnerable. Without being able to catch herself, she knew she had ended up singing directly to Jude, and in doing that, her heart felt like it was snapping in two. She just wanted to keep running, and she didn't know if she should look back.
