I'm just glad he agreed to stay. At the very least I can keep him warm and in clean sheets.

We do the best we can... It's all we really can do. Warm and in clean sheets is better than at home alone.

I guess we can be grateful he's never been a stubborn kid. He has never tried to hold off help, he just hasn't actively asked for it very often.

He's always been open to help for sure. But he doesn't want to be a bother. He told me that once... Broke my heart that thinking asking for normal things from us was being a bother.

I keep thinking back to that first night we had him. He was feeling so poorly, and he was so upset. He didn't push me away. I sat with him in the bathroom for hours until he let me help him back to bed when I reassured him bed was better for him than a cold bathroom floor. I took his hand when I was helping him back to his room, and I still remember how tightly he held onto mine, like it was a lifeline to keep going.

You were. You've been a lifeline to him since the day he walked into our lives. He adapted to me, then to the twins, but you were his safe place when he didn't think that he'd ever be safe again.

He didn't take that much longer to warm to you. I think now it was because of the issues with his father that it took a little longer to convince himself you wouldn't hurt him.

No, he didn't. It makes sense with what we know now. He told me once that seeing me with the triplets is what made him feel safe with me.

No one here was passing judgement on him or making him feel like he didn't deserve the love and care. I always wanted right from day one with him to treat him exactly how we had always treated the other three.

Aside from him being too old to enjoy that duct tape thing I did to Brett. He's a part of the family. He has been since he got here, whether he believed it or not himself. But it didn't take him very long.

You could offer to tape him into his pants, but I don't think he would appreciate it, darling. No, that was because he desperately needed it.

Brett wasn't all that impressed with it, either. I know. He needed so much more than we could have imagined.
