He's having an episode. He won't sleep.

Does that happen because of his illness? I don't wanna be the weirdo with the twenty questions. I just want to understand a little better what his illness does to him.

Yes, it just happens. His illness gives him episodes, whether it be manic or depressive. Sometimes they're brief, sometimes they can last for weeks. They call them episodes because it's controlled at other times.

So it's just kind of when things get bad enough that his medications don't keep it under control?

[aussielawyer]

His medications control it, they don't take it away. If he didn't take the medications, he would never be well. He'd be indefinitely locked in a psych unit for his own safety.

Like when he first moved here? He told me he was really in a bad way when he came to you.

[aussielawyer]

He was very sick when he got here. The mental illness was only part of it.

I'm really glad he came here and that he's getting the treatment and the love. I know that makes a huge difference.

It helps, that's for sure.
