Taking another forkful of his pasta, Jace nodded when his thoughts inevitably ended up back to his own very long recovery and rehab ordeal. He was much younger than Justin and Sasha at just 9 years old when he was hit by the car but his recovery from that had been years. It delayed his development, he had to re-learn all his basic and complex functions, including speaking, walking, feeding himself. As a result, his puberty development was delayed and he never went back to school. These days, he hardly ever talked about those years and it wasn't just because his memory was patchy. He didn't even talk much about what he did remember, though Jesse was one person he had told everything he remembered, even if it took him months to work through it. Jesse never pushed, nor ever made him feel like just because they were in a committed relationship, Jace had to tell him everything. Or even anything. In fact, Jesse had assured him many time in their early days he never needed him to talk about what was too hard to revisit. It wasn't a compulsory necessity because they wanted to get married. But it just made Jace want to tell him everything, even if it took time for his brain to work through it. "I'd probably fuck it up and upset him anyway. Say stupid shit in accidentally stupid ways and remind him of just the horrible things about it. Justin doesn't need anyone heaping more horrible things onto him. But I do know what being brain-injured is like and I'd help if I could. It's just kinda... fucked that being brain-injured means I'd be shit at it. And by fucked, I mean that other word that I can't remember right now." He put his elbow on the table to rest his head on his hand, chewing the inner corner of his lip as he hesitated or a few moments, more playing with his food now than eating it. "What's been actually happening when I have seizures and after it? I don't even know if I want to know the answer to that but at the same time, I want to know what you deal with. If it's impacting on you and wearing you out. It sounds like they're different to how they used to be."
"Yeah, that'd be really nice. If anyone needs time away again, it's them." He put his fork down to brush his hand over Jesse's hair and then softly massaged his neck. "You don't always know how to switch off helping everyone else and it means you forget that you need help too sometimes. About the only time you relinquish to that is when you're waking up after a seizure feeling like death and have no choice but to let someone else help. So, if I asked really, really nicely, will you just let me try to help before you get to that point? Like, I'm pretty sure making sure you get rest, eat something decent, and be on the receiving rather than giving end of TLC, I'd help a bit, yeah?"
