"We are family."

Who: Billy Willis with a side order of his gorgeous husband and his basic bitch brother
What: VIP access
Where: Manhattan, NYC
When: Alongside this

Billy didn't care how tired Jude was from working, he kicked his brother out of bed around eight and told him that everyone had to work, and he could deal with it. Like it or not, Billy was going to keep kicking Jude up the ass until he remembered how to be a functioning member of their family again. Because he had told himself the next step would be to tell Jude to find somewhere else to live if he didn't get his act together, and he didn't want to have issues like that in their family. Everyone had been through too much already, and if nothing else, Holly deserved to have a godfather she could see actually wanted to be around.

Justin hadn't been paying attention to anything going on in the rows of the audience at all. Billy thought it was might be just because it was early and he was super-focused, but it soon became obvious that Justin had the early stages of a cold when Billy outright - with no mouth filter - asked if he had pissed Justin off or something. Will just laughed, probably because Justin giving the silent treatment to people wasn't out of the question, but currently it wasn't Will, it was his parents. Neither of which who were there that day. Will explained that Justin had woken up with what felt like a sore throat and had a bit of a temperature. Not enough to get him to cancel any rehearsal, though. That was when Billy realised Justin was vocal-resting, so he wouldn't chat away to anyone who had come to watch rehearsals like he normally would, even if he could.

As they settled into one of the seats with some snacks, Billy told Jude he was going to enjoy himself or else he would get a bitchslap. Some of Justin and Will's pals were there, along with the Electricks guys who had their turn at rehearsing too. Casper was with Lance, Presley and Emilio, Kyan and Autumn, and a couple of other people Billy didn't know. What he didn't know or expect was Reecy to be there. Like, at all.

Justin nailed Dream On. Damn, no wonder the kid was where he was if he could sing like that with a sore throat. Billy had recorded the whole thing on the phone because Justin was like a little brother to him too, and he was ridiculously proud of him. "Do you have a boner now, buddy?" Billy teased Will, giving him a nudge with a smirk. His big brother duties extended to Will by default, considering he and Justin were mostly joined at the hip.

As soon as he realise Reecy had walked on the stage, Billy's mouth dropped open and he leaned forward to see Jude on the other side of Ajay, wondering if he was going to be chicken shit and do the bolt here. A year ago, he would've been able to pick any of Jude's reaction pretty easily. No, he still felt a distance between them. Jude had already spotted Reecy, though. He was gaping with his mouth open. Yes, that dress was doing all sorts of awesome with her curves and cleavage. It was that moment that Billy realised something... Reecy had her sparkle back.

She had her sparkle back, but apparently she was also going to be singing with Justin. She was an official ambassador of the charity with Justin now, so dug - of course she was. And she was incredible. But for all Billy was sitting there admiring her, awed by the power of her voice, he started to feel sad. Sad that Jude had fucked this up, sad his brother had let all this slip through his fingers, sad their family had a wedge driven between it.

He went through this strange wave of emotions sitting there listening to Justin and Reecy sing together, until it finally hit him how lucky he was. He lost a ball, but he survived cancer. Justin was mentally ill, but he had survived multiple suicide attempts. They all had a chance whether to give up or keep going, and they had kept fighting. If Jude wanted to make the other choice, it was on his head. At the end of the song, Billy was on his feet, cheering them both on. It wasn't even the actual concert yet, but he didn't care. He was so fucking proud to be able to call Justin and Reecy his family.

He hoped that one day he would be able to say that again about his biological brother. He just wouldn't hold his breath.

NARRATIVE, COMPLETE
