Love is knowing that sometimes, you can't make it better and trying to might only make it worse anyway.

Who: Fin Bennett and Shannon Webster
What: Important boyfriend stuff
Where: School
When: Friday morning
Fin knew Shannon had come to school because they met every morning before class. He had seen Shannon's dad drop him off with his own owns. Granted, they didn't have their first couple of classes together on a Friday, but they always met for the break. That morning, Shannon wasn't at the place they always met. Of course, that immediately made Fin start to panic that something was wrong. He didn't freak out right up, though. He asked their friends if they had seen him, but no one had. Cassidy did say that Fin hadn't been in the last class, though. That made Fin start to freak out maybe just a little. He went to the nurse's office in case Shannon was sick, but he was pretty sure Shannon would've sent him a text if he wasn't feeling well.
Shannon wasn't at the nurse's office. No one had seen him since the first period. Fin checked his cell phone in case his phone was delayed with incoming messages. He even tried turning it on and off again, in case there was some weird, unlikely network failure. It said the last time Shannon was on Whatsapp was that morning before school even started. Fin was about to panic at that point. He skipped class to the perimeter of the entire school looking for Shannon, fearing something terrible had happened. Bullying, if he was being honest with himself.
He was about to go to the office and raise the alarm, when he doubled back across the football field to take a shortcut to the admin building. That was where he found Shannon, sitting at the base of the bleachers in his wheelchair. Alone. Not in class. "Shannon!" he called out and ran across the field to where his boyfriend was. Before he even reached him, he was checking him over for any signs of injury. There didn't seem to be injury, but Shannon looked miserable. "Baby, what's wrong? I've been looking all over for you. Are you feeling sick?"

Who: Kip Pryor, Garrett Holt, Fin Bennett and Shannon Webster
What: Road trip
Where: On the road
When: Friday afternoon
It was going to be an interesting adventure, so say the very least. Apparently, there was a big camping trip planned. Fin and Shannon were part of this extended friends group, and they had arranged a camping trip that got postponed when Fin was sick, and rescheduled for when he got his stitches out. Apparently even Justin Campbell and his lover were coming along for a couple of days, which would be pretty neat. Kip had never met a celebrity before.
Kip was shocked he was even invited, but as soon as Shannon had revealed to Fin that Kip could get him some weed to try for the first time, Fin was cool with it. That was a surprise to Kip in itself, considering the whole drug mess Fin landed in back in his hometown. But Shannon said he and Fin had talked about the whole medicinal marijuana thing, and Fin would be completely fine with it if it helped some of Shannon's pain. So, the camping trip then became Mission: Get Shan High.
Only, despite the fact Kip did get some good weed off his friend, he had forgotten the date they were leaving on the camping trip and got drunk with his circle of 'friends' the night before. Shannon called him about two hours ago to ask where he was, because they needed to pack the truck up. Kip had still bee asleep, hungover from the night before. Which is exactly why, as soon as he had the truck pulled up on the drive of the Websters' farm, Shannon, Fin, and Garrett were all there waiting.
He hadn't know Garrett was coming. This should be interesting. But as soon as they started packing the truck up, Kip's hangover decided it would be a perfect time to make him barf all over the Websters' lawn in front of everyone. It wasn't just a small, discreet puke either. It was an epic on, where it felt like you were trying to heave up your liver and other attached internal organs. It was the sort where, even by the time you were done, your body was still dry heaving in protest.
He pulled himself together - just - and kind of wanted to just bolt rather than straightening up and turning to look at the others, because he was pretty sure Fin would either deck him or ban him from the trip for being hungover. He was sweaty and pale when he did finally force himself to turn back to the truck. Fin was just giving him a nose-scrunched Judgy McJudgerson face, while Shannon was digging a bottle of water out of the bag at the back of his chair.
"I'm cool. Let's go," he finally said hoarsely with a purposeful avoidance of Garrett's gaze. He took the water to rinse his mouth out and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.

Who? Garrett Holt and Fin Bennett
What? Tough love from the BFF
When? Thursday night
Where? Mt. Sinai
Garrett was thankful as hell that he'd made the move to New York when he did, because he would've been crazy worried about Fin finding out that his best friend had gone through surgery if he'd found out over Facebook from somebody else. It was nice to be able to come by, check in on Fin and make sure he was okay. Granted, when he'd first arrived, the other boy was sleeping, so Garrett passed the time quietly, playing games on his phone for a while. He couldn't leave until he talked to Fin, because the last thing he wanted was his best friend finding out that he'd slept with a guy, and not just any guy, but a guy he didn't like, from Facebook.
But Fin woke up groggily after about half an hour of casual phone gaming, and Garrett quickly tucked the device into his pocket, meeting his best friend's gaze. "Hey, dude," he told him with a small, warm smile. "That must've been one hell of a nap. How're you feeling?"

Who: Walker Chester and Finlay Bennett
What: Becoming a family
Where: Pediatric Surgical Unit, Mount Sinai
When: Monday night
Walker told Sawyer to go home and get some sleep, and promised he would stay at the hospital to keep an eye on Fin. It wasn’t vitally necessary. The pediatric staff were fantastic here, and Fin was mostly just sleeping. If he was awake, he wanted to be asleep. If he was awake and in pain, they gave him more painkillers that knocked him out to sleep. It was the best thing for him, all things considered.
He was sitting by Fin’s bed reading a book when the teen opened his eyes groggily. Walker put the book aside on the vacant seat left by Sawyer when he grudgingly went home. He gave Fin a soft smile. “Hey, buddy. How are you feeling? How’s the pain levels?”
( He couldn’t help it if he was a doctor and felt the need to be in both doctor and kid’s dad’s boyfriend mode all at once... )

Who: Shannon Webster and Finlay Bennett
What: Relief
Where: Pediatric Surgical Unit, Mount Sinai
When: Evening, later after THIS
It had seemed like forever before Reecy was calling Shannon up and telling him Fin was going to be coming back to the ward soon, and had been asking for him in Recovery. That settled the hurt and turmoil Shannon had been feeling inside. He hated that he felt shellshocked for feeling like he was just in the way with his wheelchair. Especially considering how much Fin had helped him when he hadn't been feeling well; like that night he had a pain flare up and he had an accident in the bed. It had been absolutely fucking awful, but Fin hadn't bothered by it at all. He had been incredible. That was all Shannon wanted to be able to return.
Shannon didn't know what went down with everyone else before he got to the ward Fin was admitted to. He couldn't even look Walker or Sawyer in the eye. He just wheeled himself into the room Reecy directed him to as Fin's. She told him that Fin had a terrible time coming out of the anesthetic, which made him really sick. It was why it had taken longer to come out of Recovery. The actual procedure itself was tricky and time-consuming, the appendix had been gangrenous and just because Fin was a special kind of guy, they discovered he had actually been born with his appendix attached to his bowel, which was why it ended up gangrenous once the appendicitis kicked in. Needless to say, it was a tricky procedure all around.
It was a lot to hear and take in. Shannon understood even more why there was such a frenzy of urgency with Fin in the ER, but it still didn't make him feel less like a hopeless lump just getting in the way. He was going to have shove all that down and deal with it. Later, though. Now, he just wanted to see Fin. Fin was wrapped up in hospital blankets, looking to be sleeping. He had an oxygen mask on, and was attached to a couple of monitors and IV lines. That was all pretty standard for an emergency surgery. They had to watch him for awhile, make sure there were no post-operative complications.
Shannon wheeled himself right up to Fin's side and softly, carefully, took one of his hands to hold between both of his own. He leaned over and kissed Fin's finger, letting the connection just engulf him. At least he could be sure Fin was okay now.

Who: Kip Pryor and Shannon Webster
What: "And I would have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life."
Where: Mount Sinai, NYC
When: Little while after THIS
They would have time for a coffee. It would be a bit of a wait. That was what the kind doctor who was apparently dating Fin's father told Kip when he asked. Of course, he was having an internal anxiety attack about asking because he didn't feel like he deserved to be involved in any of this. But he told Shannon he would go in and find out what was happening. Armed with the knowledge that Fin had been rushed to surgery to get rid of the nasty appendix wreaking havoc on his insides, Kip knew this was his moment. If he fucked this moment up like he had fucked so many others up in the past, it would all be done. Game over.
He didn't get coffee. He wasn't really much of tea, but he didn't want to get Shannon wired when he would already be torn up inside over what happened. In all honesty, it had taken a hell of a lot of inner self-control for Kip not to step up and punch that nurse who said that to Shannon in the dick. He deserved being punched in the dick. The rude cunt. Hadn't he seen how shit that made Shannon feel. Kip hadn't seen what happened, but he heard it and heard Shannon burst into tears. That was when he hadn't been able to slink in the shadows like the loser scumbag he was anymore. He couldn't just let everyone palm Shannon off like he didn't matter. He fucking mattered.
When they got to the cafeteria, he found small table in the back by the wall, away from the thoroughfare. He pushed Shannon up to the table and then went to get them some tea. It was probably going to be more shit than usual being hospital offerings, but it didn't matter. He didn't have a lot of cash at his disposal, but he counted out some change from his pocket and had just enough to pay for two cups. He brought them back and set one down in front of Shannon. He contemplated taking the seat across the table. Instead, he pulled one of the chairs right up to Shannon's side and sat beside him, hesitantly wrapping his arm around him.
"Bet he's gonna want to see you as soon as he's not out of it after the anesthetic," he offered quietly, not sure of what else to say.

Who: Shannon Webster with Fin, Reecy, Sawyer, Walker... and Kip
What: Just getting in the way
Where: ER, Mount Sinai, NYC
When: After THIS and THIS
Shannon was pretty sure that night was the very definition of 'horrible'. He had that niggle in his gut when he saw Fin's Facebook post the morning before about having a weird pain in this stomach. His boyfriend had managed to cleverly palm it off, though, insisting Shannon keep his plans with his family coming from upstate and a sibling hangout date he had with his big sisters. When he told his sisters he wanted to break the plans, they both managed to (unintentionally) make him feel guilty as hell for trying. Zara even went with 'You've got all summer to hang with your man, Shanny. Just give us one afternoon!'. Needless to say, it put him in a bad mood anyway, because he couldn't shake the feeling Fin was sick. Maybe it was just the start of another 'dizzy thing', as Fin called his episodes, but they never started with a pain in the stomach.
There was also the fact Shannon had noticed Fin had been off his food those past few days. It had been a running joke at the time. If Fin said he wasn't hungry, it was like, 'I'm not saying that too loud or Dad will try to force-feed me pepperoni'. Still, Fin was usually a monster eater. He loved his food. He could sit and eat a whole pizza in one go, and half the menu fro McDonalds was ordered if they went there on a date. Maybe it was the cold they both had, but Fin's appetite dissipated. He hadn't even wanted any of the soup Shannon's mom made them when they had the sniffles for a couple of days. At Layla's party, he ate half a Tootsie Roll Bar, and that was it. And there had been loads of candy on the go there.
It was maybe mid-afternoon that Shannon sent Fin another text and asked him how his stomach was. All Fin said was 'Still there'. At that point, Shannon just didn't care if he pissed his sisters off or his extended family visiting thought he was rude. He didn't care if they all thought he was suddenly over-obsessed with having a boyfriend and that was all he could think about and talk about it. It wasn't like that. He even got into a fight with his mom, who was firm with him and said it was rude to leave before the family sat down to dinner because his aunt had made some comment about how far they had driven.
( Shannon did something that was probably not a good idea, but he didn't care about that either. He called Kip and asked him to come drive him to Fin's straight away... )

Who: Finlay Bennett, Shannon Webster, Cassidy Cohen and anyone else if they want to
What: Meeting more new friends
Where: Layla's place
When: Wednesday evening
Despite the fact they both caught a cold, it wasn't anything serious and Fin and Shannon still wanted to go along to the 'thing' at 'Layla's place'. It was almost like no one really wanted to call it a party knowing Justin wasn't going to be there, but a 'thing' was still happening, so Fin wanted to go to this 'thing' because it was summer break. It was summer break, there was no school, and finally he could chill with Shannon whenever he felt like it without needing to schedule anything. Layla called Fin and told him about her 'thing', and told him to come along with Shannon because it was going to be some typical fun. Apparently at the request of Justin himself, because he wanted everyone to meet his new friend he met in the hospital.
That was fine by Fin. He loved meeting new friends, and he was still technically new-ish in this whole mix himself. He was up for it. The cold pills were doing their thing, and he wasn't feeling too bad. He had gone the longest stretch, too, without a dizzy thing, but he wasn't going to tempt fate by saying that out loud. Everyone but Justin was there, including Zara, who Harry invited, and Fin told Garrett to come on but not to hit on anyone... especially because a good portion of their female quota were lesbians. It wouldn't end in success for him.
Fin had always been a friendly guy. He loved meeting new people. Maybe it was a growing up in a small town kind of thing because small towns had the same people over and over again. He took a bite of the Tootsie Roll Bar he was sharing with Shannon and then handed it to his boyfriend. He saw Cassidy coming by with a drink she had just been given and he gave her a smile. "Cassidy? Hi. I'm Fin," he introduced himself, holding his hand out. "And this is Shannon, my boyfriend. Clearly the cutest guy here tonight," he added with a laugh.

I may have found one downside to have a sexy boyfriend: germ swapping via spit swapping because you think you're invincible when you kiss him when he has a cold.
Also, why the fuck do people catch colds in the summer?

Hey... I don't wanna wake you if you're sleeping... You needed to be sleeping. But if you're awake, which I somehow imagine you probably are, I feel like you need a hug, too.

Who: Kip Pryor and Finlay Bennett
What: "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo..."
Where: Fin's place
When: Saturday morning
It was a good 15-20 minutes that Kip stood on the sidewalk out the front of the apartment block where Fin lived. He had three cigarettes and only just stopped talking himself out of this bullshit and pissing off back to the tube station. He knew why he was here, he just had no fucking idea how he was going to pull it off. What he knew was that he owed it to Shannon to at least try. He owed Shannon so fucking much, and he knew he was a cunt of epic proportions. He just hadn't realised how much of a cunt until Fin went full-on psycho-boyfriend at him. Had Kip been jealous of him? Fuck, yes. Had he dealt with it in the best way? Fuck, no.
He flicked the butt of the last smoke to the ground and stubbed it out with his toe. He went inside and checked in with the doorman. He told him he was a friend of Fin and Shannon's. The dude knew who Shan was. Kip didn't know how he was supposed to process that information. He didn't bother trying. By the time he got to the door of the apartment he was looking for, he sighed heavily and pressed the buzzer. No point prolonging it. if he did that, he would just chicken out like a pansy. He hoped it wasn't Fin who answered, which was dumb. He knew that. He just hoped maybe there was intermediate buffer, like Fin's dad, who could be a go-between. He had no idea what Fin's dad looked like, and that was probably a good thing with this, all things considered.
( It was Fin. And as soon as he saw it was Kip, his face went from somewhere between exhausted and sleepy to downright murderous. Kip braced himself... )

Who: Finlay Bennett with Shannon Webster
What: Challenges
Where: Fin's place
When: Late Friday night
Friday nights had established itself as 'Date Night' for Fin and Shannon. Shannon had rescheduled his weekly physical therapy sessions for a Friday afternoon so Fin could some along with him after school. They would meet at the clinic and Fin would either sit with him while he did exercises with the therapist, or would go into the hydrotherapy pool with him. After the necessary evil was out of the way, they would either go to Fin's place, or Shannon's place, have dinner with their folks and then do their own thing. They had gone to the movies a couple of times, or gone out for a burger. It was just their night, and everyone had learned not to intercept on it. It was important.
Everything had gone smoothly. They had the therapy session, then they went to McDonalds for dinner before heading to the nearby cinema to watch Finding Dory. They were staying at Fin's place that week, and it was a bit late when they got back. Fin's dad was already in bed, and Fin wasn't sure if Walker had come to stay over too. It never bothered him in the slightest when his dad's boyfriend stayed over. It was just a thing now. They all fit in together. It worked. They made out, they had sex, and they fell asleep cuddling or spooning. It was all pretty common to their date night now.
( It was the very early hours of the morning when Shannon woke Fin up. He was in tears, and before he said anything else, he was sobbing out an apology to Fin for having to wake him up... )

Who? Garrett Holt, Fin Bennett, and Shannon Webster
What? Good-natured teasing
When? After the show
Where? The afterparty
Garrett had apparently timed his arrival in New York horribly, showing up in time to get dragged to a ballet with Fin and Shannon. On a list of 603469203846 things that he would want to do in a big, amazing city like New York, ballet didn't even make the list. But after a stern talking to from Fin, he was drafted just the same, and told he had to dress nicely ("Not your good jeans nicely... Like a real pair of slacks and a nice shirt!"), and that if Fin ended up getting drugs given to him at the afterparty, he was going to personally castrate Garrett himself. With a rusty fork and butter knife.
The ballet had seemed like it would be strikingly dull... at least until Garrett had seen Juliet. And that moment had changed the whole course of the evening in his mind. He couldn't have cared less about ballet itself. He didn't get it, and it didn't make sense to him. But that girl in tights? That definitely made sense... and a sort of sense that the self-control he so prided himself in failed him entirely... leading to an embarrassed duck to the bathroom only twenty minutes into the performance.
He'd tried to protest the afterparty, but Fin had insisted that they go and support his friends, and that was yet another thing that Garrett had no sway in... So on they went to the party, where he was introduced the the gorgeous redhead, and was instantly struck so dumb that he just awkwardly waved at her with a stupid grin on his face. He was usually so incredibly slick with girls. He was basically a professional pick up artist... at least when it came to cowgirls at the rodeos he went to.... but Zara was different, and that was stupid. Because he'd only just met her.
It was a relief when she disappeared with Harry and he was sitting at a table, Fin sitting between him and Shannon. "Dude, ballet? What's this damn City done to you?" he asked, utterly hoping that his epic fail hadn't been noticed.

Who: Finlay Bennett and Shannon Webster
What: When sometimes stuff is just important
Where: Leonia, LJ
When: After THIS
Fin had really come to like this honorary big sister thing. Especially when Reecy was perfectly okay with driving up to Shannon's place without notice when Fin called her up and told her he really needed to go. Fin had to have the day off school because of dizziness late the afternoon before. His dad was working, but he wasn't booked all day, so he was going to come home between sessions to check on Fin. But in the meantime, Fin had spoken briefly to Shannon on Facebook and decided he needed to go talk to Shannon ASAP. What his dad was learning was that Fin had a spontaneous streak to him. It wasn't really reckless, he just sort of followed his heart. He was a country boy. He had grown up having the freedom of a big wide open space, and doing whatever he liked with all his friends, whenever he liked. If he wanted to do something, he did it. He hadn't really managed to shed that in coming to New York.
He left his dad a huge note that he would see as soon as he walked in the door, and Reecy picked him up and drove him to Leonia. Now, Fin had all intentions of still resting. It would just be at Shannon's place. So, he was still in his cow print pyjama pants and merely pulled a hoodie on over his black tank top. The drive wasn't entirely pleasant because the movement of the car was still making him dizzy. This time, no barfing, thankfully. He just spent the trip with his hand over his eyes so he couldn't see all the movement around him.
When he got to Shannon's, and Shannon's dad let him in, he went straight to Shannon's room, hand still shielding his eyes a little from the brightness. "Hi, baby. Sorry, but we had to talk about this stuff not on Facebook," he explained. Shannon was sitting on his bed doing some schoolwork. Fin leaned over and gave him a kiss, and then climbed up on the bed to lie down. They had that level of comfort between them now. Once he was horizontal again, he didn't feel so woozy. He took Shannon's hand and gave it a squeeze. "I don't need you to be a porn star."

That awkward moment when your boyfriend sees a news article about a neglected and starving horse, and not only immediately bursts into tears but calls your BFF and blackmails him to drive out and pick the horse up to adopt him straight away. Said BFF that he hates and punched.
I am in a truck in between my BFF, and my boyfriend, who hate each other. To pick up a sick horse for adoption from Syracuse without telling any parents.
Sorry, Sawyer. But it was a sick horse and he cried!
