Dave nodded and replied quietly, "Awful's a good start. Thankfully, I'm not a drinker because you tend to think more about taking care of yourself when you've faced death in the face." It had been one of those all-hands-on-deck situations when the call came through to scrub up ASAP. Liam had been working himself into the ground these past couple of weeks and Dave had been concerned this was too much for him when they got the details of their patient. Not only had the guy managed to shoot her in abdomen at close range, but he pushed her down the stairs when she tried to fight him off raping her. Dave had quickly told Liam to sit this one out and finish his shift, but in a situation like that, when you were a surgeon, you were subject to the adrenaline rush and Liam had really believed he would be okay. Just once they were in the OR and the woman was bleeding out all over the place, it had been too much for him and he hit the deck. "I guess I do it because I'm good at it, and because it's a job someone needs to do... preferably someone who's good at it. Our cases are those that hit out of the blue, loved ones aren't prepared. They need to know we're doing our best."
As much as he loved sex, sometimes after shifts like this, the mood just wasn't there. The lethargy that was seeping right down into the bones was, but sometimes it didn't mean sleep was guaranteed. It could take awhile to switch off after those cases. He opened his own soda and took a sip. "I don't think I've been to the beach since I was in Miami. I did a placement there for a short while when I was in Med School. I don't think it's presumptuous. This is literally the first I've considered it. The last holiday I took was fishing at the lake with Nate, and that was before Tyler came back on the scene. Feels like a lifetime ago."
