"To be honest, it was a bad shift. We got a multiple-casualty job land on our hands right before I was about to clock off, so I stayed on. Ended up in the OR for nearly six hours with that one, only to lose the patient before we could finish the job when she went into cardiac arrest. All very grim, so I'm feeling it this afternoon. It was a guy on Ice who started it all. Stormed into the place his girlfriend worked and decided he was going to start shooting up the store because she wouldn't go with him. She dragged her out the back of the store and was trying to rape her, and ended up pushing her down some stairs. So, having Liam shadowing me today, the poor kid ended up passing out shortly into the surgery so I sent him home. I've just been on the phone to Tara and she said Liam has been in bed most of the day so she wasn't exactly sure how he was doing," Dave explained, wryly tugging his lips to the side.
He gave his hand a little way. "But I can't let tough work stuff get in the way. I'm a trauma surgeon, my work is hard. Which is why I have, indeed, been missing you and looking forward to making it home. Unfortunately, I didn't make it home this morning to be able to do housework, so I'm glad that we picked yours this time because it has a really bachelor-padish grossness to it at the moment. Right about now I'm dreaming of a holiday somewhere with sun and beaches for my leave coming up."
