Taylor gave Lee a faint sympathetic, yet also empathetic, smile. "I know it probably doesn't help much at all, but I do understand what you're going through and how exhausting and confusing all the whirlwind of thoughts are. Feeling like your life is never going to be the same again, and that you might lose everything around you. Wondering if you should just be alone so you don't burden anyone. I do get it, and I also get that talking about it isn't easy. So, please don't feel obligated to sit and carry on this conversation if you aren't ready for it."

He shook Lee's hand. "It is permanent. I've been in a chair for just over ten years now. Jace was 11, I was 15. My mom was an addict and an alcoholic. It's all a very messy story, but she was high and got behind the wheel. I didn't know when I got in the car with her, and by the time I did, she was driving like a crazy person, completely off her face. She hit Jace and ran the car into a lamp post nearby, and my side of the car took the most impact. She walked away without a single injury, but Jace and me were left with this. It's not paralysis. It's a spinal chord injury that's weakened my lower back so I have no strength in my legs to utilise them but I can feel them."
